Windows 7 won't start after update.
I installed Windows 7 and had this problem, when I booted the system, and got to the logon screen, if I didn't type in my password fast enough my computer would restart.
I could start the computer, and let it sit at the logon screen and after 15-30 seconds the screen would go black and the computer would start up again.
If I logged on before the screen went black, but waited more then 5 seconds after the log on screen appeared, the computer would log on, but still the screen would go black and th computer would restart after another 15 seconds.
However, if I started the computer and waited eagerly for the second the box appeared for me to type my password in, and immediately loged in, I was fine.
I searched all over the net to find out why this was happening, and tried pressing F8 before booting up, and selecting system repair, but no luck with either. It seems nobody else has had this problem. I then decided to just deal with it and I would always
have to wait eagerly to log on.
That worked fine until 5 days ago, when I updated my system and was prompted to restart. I did so and the system booted and instead of the logon screen I got one saying "Please wait, windows is configuring your system. Do not unplug of turn off your system"
or something similar. That was fine until 15 seconds later the screen goes black and the computer restarts, I try 5 more times and no progress.
I tried system repair, didn't work. I tried to open system restore, but Windows 7 does not appear in the list of systems, none do. I booted off my windows 7 disc, and tried repair, nothing. I tried booting into Safe mode, last known good configuration, debug
mode, and all the others in the list when you press F8 during boot.
I can no longer boot into Windows 7 in any way. I tried booting into Windows XP Pro, and opening the drive which Windows 7 is installed on, and opened D:\Windows\winsxs and renamed "pending.xml" to "pending.old" then tried booting into Windows 7. No luck.
I then moved "pending.xml (now pending.old), reboot.xml, and poqexec.log" into a newly created folder I made. so they are now in D:\Windows\winsxs\thefolderIcreated I had no luck after trying to boot into Windows. I went to D:\Windows\winsxs\Temp and renamed
"PendingDeletes" to "PendingDeletesx" and rebooted, still no luck.
I know this build of Windows 7 works with my computer, since I've installed it on my computer 3 other times with no problems.
Computer specs:
MSI Wind U100
2GB Ram
Western Digital: Scorpio Blue SATA 500GB Hard drive
Quad boot : Ubuntu 10.04 Notebook Remix, Mac OS X 10.4.2, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows 7 Enterprise: Build 7600
I don't get a blue screen or error code when booting into Windows 7. I have no clue why I'm having a problem. Any help would be great. I am now going to revert all the files back to their origional state before I moved and renamed things.
