Windows 7 wireless problem: connect to router but not Internet
OS: Windows 7 64 bit with latest Windows Updates Problem: Yesterday, I installed VMware Player and XP Mode to play a legacy game; also, some Automatic Windows Updates were applied. After the Windows Update's all done, it prompted me to restart every 10 or 15 minutes, even after I chose Postpone 4 Hours every time. Probably one hour after, I closed VMware Player and restarted Windows. Later, I found my Internet didn't work anymore. Troubleshooting Attempts: I had already removed VMware Player, restarted the wireless router, restarted WiFi, reenable WiFi adapter, reinstalled Wireless driver. Windows 7's network troubleshooting found no problem. Current Situation: The home wireless network is working properly for sure, because both my phone and others' laptops connect to the same WiFi and work properly. WiFi is shown to be connected and working. I can ping and connect to the wireless router, but unable to go to any website. I installed Ubuntu 10 to go online and ask for help now. Please, someone help me!

Hi, Reinstall the network adapter driver first. Then open an elevated command and refresh DNS and reset Winsock. Meantime, temporarily disable firewall and antivirus. >ipconfig /flushdns >netsh winsock reset Ping router and external websites for testing, narrowing down the issue. I suggest you restart router by powering off 10 seconds.Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support

Thanks for your reply. I've tried reinstalling driver, refreshing DNS and resetting Winsock many times. What's worse, after the last several driver re-installation, Windows 7 says there's some driver problem, reinstalling either the lasted driver or the original driver yield same result. Now, my Windows 7 doesn't even see any wireless networks. Re-installing wireless driver only worsened the situation for unknown reason.

Hi, To restore system, set IP address and DNS manually. You may contact the ISP for the DNS address. If the issue persists, to connect Internet directly without router for test. Waiting for your result.Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support
