Windows 7 will not startup after a BSOD
Hello everyone. I have a Windows 7 64bit machine that will not boot. It goes through the BIOS fine and then loads files and goes into repair module. After the repair finishes it says that it cannot be repaired. The error code denotes a corrupt file. When I go to the advanced screen and open a command prompt and try to run sfc /scannow it starts the process only to end with the message that says there is a repair scheuled for the computer, restart your computer and try sfc again. I have restarted numorous times and neither the repair nor the scheuled chkdsk /f run. It just comes back to the repair tool. I have also tried running the repair tool from booting the Win 7 64bit DVD. Also, it will not start in any level of safe mode either. I have more hours into this comuter configuration than I want to count up. I really do not want go through a reformat due to all of the time and programs already installed. Can anyone tell me how to get past the scheduled repair so that I can run the sfc /scannow utility. I think if I were able to run the sfc it might fix the corrupted files. Please help!! Thanks!HTech

Hopefully you have a system restore point prior to the issue. From F8 after BIOS post or the installation dvd repair options, try to restore to the most recent point prior to the problem. This doesn't lose any current data. Have you created any complete pc restore system images? It's another safeguard for these situations.

I had restore enabled but from the repair consol it tells me that there are no restore points! Not sure how they were removed, but I had to do a restore a few months ago and there were points listed at every install, uninstall and security essentials update, as well as all windows updates. I also have a backup from march, which does me no good becasue I installed alot of stuff and created many documents and videos since then. YES, shame on me for not having my main computer backed up. I have been to busy taking care of everyone elses computers and neglecting mine.. Let's not dwell on this because I have already beat myself up over this!!! Any suggestions on how to get past the scheduled repair and chkdsk /f??? ThanksHTech

You can cancel the chkdsk by editing the registry http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158675

I can only access the registry editor from the command prompt choice in the advanced repair module, by going to the directory and typeing regedt32. I did this and the BootExecute key is not there. I did check on a different win 7 32bit machine and the the key was there. Would it matter if I was accessing from the repair module as opossed to a live windows session? Furthermore, would it matter that this is a 64bit version and not 32bit. Has anyone ever seen the repair module work in windows 7??? I have had several computers have this issue and the repair tool has never fixed anything! It's always a sure sign of a fresh format and new install. Just wanted to know if the repair module has ever worked for anyone?? Thanks!!HhTech

Yes, I am a technet subscriber. Any ideas on the registry key location on a 64 bit machine. Would it be in the same path or different?HhTech

The MDOP has the DaRT tool, which you can download as a TechNet Subscriber. It may help you save the computer. You'll need another computer to create the bootable cd on and the 64-bit installation disk. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee532075.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ee526596.aspx
