Windows 7 will lock up during boot.
Windows 7 has been working great for up till a week ago. When I restarted my computer, it boots clear up to the blurry windows then it stops. My keyboard lights turn off and my mouse turns on. I have to restart the computer, then it takes me to launch repair.
Windows then cannot find the error to repair it and none of my restore points work. How do I fix this?
I do not feel its a hardware issue since everything has been working great. I unfortunately do not have the disc to do any reinstalls.

Hi,
First, I would like to confirm that if it is able to boot the computer as normal after launched repair.
If the system cannot boot up, you may try the following steps:
1.
Reset BIOS
2.
Use the Last Known Good Configuration startup option
3.
boot the computer in
Safe Mode
4.
Reset the registry in WinRE
Reset the registry
===================
Cd c:\windows\system32\config
Ren default default.old
Ren sam sam.old
Ren security security.old
Ren software software.old
Ren system system.old
Copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\default.old default
Copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\sam.old sam
Copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\security.old security
Copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\software.old software
Copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\system.old system
Restart the computer.
5.
Reload Windows 7 after backing up the important files with XCOPY commands in WinRE
backing up the important files with XCOPY commands:
======================================
running CMD.exe as administrator and then enter the following command to switch to Drive D: to check if any error codes are received.
D:
If you can switch to Drive D: without any problems, please first create a new folder named as Backup in Drive C: and then re-run CMD.exe as administrator
and input the following commands to backup your files and folders on Driver D: to Drive C: to avoid data loss.
XCOPY D:\*.* C:\Backup
Note: C is the disk label of which you want to back up the data. We can change it according to the disk on which you want to back up the data.
Check if that helps you.

Sabrina

Where or what is the D: drive? Is this supposed to be a flash drive? Most PC's default D: as a DVD/CD drive. And if no disc is in the drive, wont it prompt you to insert a disc? Or give a read error to switch to that drive?
Also, the OP mentioned he does not have the install discs to perform step:5 Reload Windows 7 after backing up important files. Or did you mean to reboot?
