Windows 7 versus Windows XP printing on a local network
For the furniture company I work for in one of the stores there are two computers in the building. One is Windows 7, and the other is a Windows XP computer. We have a printer
that we have to use from our vender, is located on the Windows 7 computer. I can see the printer from the Windows XP computer but I haven’t been able to successfully print from this computer. I have put the printer directly to Windows XP computer and
it installs the PCL6 driver, while the Windows 7 computer uses a PCL5 driver. This printer is an older laser jet printer. HP4050 is the model number of the printer. I have tried to download the driver from HP, and it says that the windows is unable to obtain
a suitable driver (or something along these lines). I have shared the printer in the windows 7 computer. Can anyone help me with ideas? I have also tried downloading the universal driver from HP as well and this didn’t help.
I am fairly computer savvy, while I haven’t been able to figure it out. Is there something else I need to set in Windows 7 for the XP computer to work?

Hi,
What is the error coed when you try to print from Windows XP?
Did you enable Password Protected Sharing in Windows 7? If not, you have to allow Guest account to use the printer. Please check permissions of the printer.
Additionally, all compatible drivers can be downloaded from
Microsoft Update Catalog
You may install correct drivers on each systems. That should be helpful. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I had to change the driver on the Windows 7 Computer to be a PCL6 driver. Once i did that, it worked perfectly.
