WINDOWS 7 UPDATE IS NOT ABLE TO CONNECT FOR UPDATES AND GETTING CODE 8024402c . Have tried everything I could find on the net, firewall, anti-virus. Still not working.

Hi, Win7 x64 sp1 - the machine had been off for awhile and auto updates were not working. Running "Windows Update" failed with red shield and "Cannot contact service" The clock was correct. The service was running - restarted it, changed it to manual, etc, all to no avail. Ran the Update Readiness tool, let a boot "repair" run overnight and a couple of "registry cleaners" (all bogus IMHO) In update settings: turned off update altogether and again ran "Windows Update" Update worked! best, PCG-Cornell

My Win 7 64 was off for several weeks. Turned of the Windows update in update settings and manually ran update. Response was that I needed to update my Updater. Downloaded updater and in process of getting my updates. Thanks PCG-Cornell
