Windows 7 unresponsive
Windows 7 becomes unresponsive minutes after logging in. The hard drive and mouse remain active. It is not a driver problem, all have been updated (including bios) - the machine is Win 7 compatible. I have found a temporary fix - adjusting the date to anything other than 2009. This has allowed me to use the computer as normal with just one problem: I cannot get updates from Windows Update. Whenever I readjust the date to the present, to let windows update do its stuff, the computer just locks up as before. Only solution at that point is to wait until the hard drive is no longer active and I manually reboot it. I have taken a look at Event Viewer logs, there's nothing there. What could be causing this? If it is explorer, is there an updated version that I can manually download?

When do you have the trouble? Do you haveany hardware or software changes recently?Your issue may becaused by the Windwos Update components. You can try the following steps to narrow down if the issue is caused by the Windows Update. 1. Click the Start Button, in Start Search box, type: "services.msc" (without quotes) and press Enter. 2. Double click the service "Windows Update".3. Click on the "General" tab; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Stopped". Then please click the "Stop" button under "Service Status" to stop the service. After that, please adjust the correct data to test if your computer works fine now. If the computer works fine now, you can try theReset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool to repair the Windows Update components, you can get them from the following links:Reset Windows Update Tool http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683System Update Readiness Tool for 32-bit Windows 7http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=44e15787-66b0-4e9c-9c3b-1fc9ea40f69f&displaylang=en&Hash=rASFhHKAxZok8t6ar%2b%2b%2byONSHNZafT3txhn4YF1mgoSN70QPg%2fkUEwqpFKsCuQEUIpkmy%2b4EBzKWLf2KbgK82A%3d%3d System Update Readiness Tool for 64-bit Windows 7http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=914fbc5b-1fba-4bae-a7c3-d2c47c6fcffc&displaylang=en&Hash=71RBdEzWY5%2f1xRlVV1lQarGObxuQxRwF71dDdTK4C5E%2fMlEm%2bD1s9Kymd7EthFMrh0fga7ulYlGupQpWcVwx%2bw%3d%3d I hope this can help you. It did not work. After applying the fixes you suggested, I adjusted date and time to the present and everything just froze, except the mouse.

I've disabled Windows update service in Sysconfig, restarted and adjusted date to present. Did not solve. It still freezes. Could this be a problem with explorer, given that it is the first to hang, everything else hangs if i click on anything. I will change from aero to classic and see haw that goes.

First, please make sure the Windows Update service is stopped, you can refer to the following steps.1. Click the Start Button in the Start Search bar, type: "services.msc" (without quotes) and press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 2. Double click the service " Windows Update".3. Click on the "General" tab; then please click the "Stop" button under "Service Status" to stop the service. 4. Restart your comptuer to test. If the computer still freeze, it's better to test our computer in the safe mode with networking first. This can help you determine if it is caused by incompatible driversor applications. If you computer doestn't freeze in safe mode, you can try to boot the computer in Clean Boot mode to narrow the cause. You can refer to methods inthe following link to find the root cause.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135I hope this can help you. John

Hi,I suggest you create a new admin account, logon the new account to see if issue still exists. If so, try John's steps --- check if issue persists in Safe Mode (or you can test in Safe Mode with networking). If not, try the Clean Boot steps. Clean Boot steps will help disable all third party services and startup items. Thus if issue will not occur in Clean Boot, we can continue the narrow down steps to find out the cause.Personally I suspect it is caused by programs or services. Waiting for your response.

Apologies for the delay in my reply. The problem was my Nokia software; I have upgraded it and my PC no longer freezes. Thank you for your responses.
