Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit not restoring backup from windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
Hi, I've been having a problem with Win7 ultimate and I'm wondering if anyone can help. I bought a laptop with Win7 home premium 64-bit and all was well until the hard drive bricked and had to be replaced. I wasn't too upset as I'd backed up all my data a week before to an external drive and decided when I got my new hard drive I'd treat myself to windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. However after installing ultimate (everything is fine it works great) it won't restore the files from the backup. I can see the backup in explorer but when I start up the backup and restore program in control panel it can't see it! Please help!

Hi, I understand what kind of issue you encounter. Because you already re-installed the Windows 7, so the backup component on the fresh installed computer can not detect the backup files which backed up originally. Please choose “Files from a backup made on a different computer” and type the local IP address to navigate the backup folder where it stored. Note: before that, please properly setup the settings which are related to sharing files and take the backup folder's ownership to you in the meantime. Also, you may try to directly Right-Click the backup folder to see whether there is Restore Options. In addition, the following link for your information. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/cannot-restore-files-from-back-up-after-re-install/50ca8ce5-2970-49ff-a727-d9d2ca715a46Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
