Windows 7 to SBS 2003 VPN Error 807
Hi, I've been experiencing huge problems getting 2 new Windows 7 Pro x64 laptops to connect to a SBS 2003 via PPTP VPN. Both are running AVG Internet Security 2011 Business Edition. The VPN works correctly using XP Pro with the same settings and credentials both internally and externally. The 807 error is a latency problem according to Windows. However I have tried logging onto the VPN from the same internal LAN as which the server resides on using the internal IP address of the server and get the same result. I have tried disabling the AVG/Windows firewall and still have the same outcome. Oddly, one of the laptops did connect for a couple of weeks but now it doesn't. It is almost like Windows is not even trying the VPN based on the speed that the error message pops up, which is pretty much instantaneous. Any help/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

Hi, First, Microsoft has explained this error code. You may refer to the following link: List of Error Codes that you may receive when you try to make a dial-up connection or a VPN connection in Windows 7 ERROR_VPN_DISCONNECT 807: The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following steps: 1. If the computer is connecting to a router, please bypass it and connect to the network directly for a test. 2. Run the following command in an elevated command prompt to disable Windows Firewall and check the issue: Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off Note: you can turn back on with the command “Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on”. 3. If you have installed some other security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers, please also temporarily disable or remove it and check if it works; you can also create a rule to allow the ports to have a try. 4. Please boot the computers to clean boot and check if there are any conflicts: Hope this helps. Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Sabrina, I am having the same issues, i tried your solution and it did not work. I am running Win 7, and connecting to Server 2008 RRAS, the strange thing is there are times when i can connect with out any problems then others i cannot connect at all. I have the same problem running XP machines (usually get an 800 error). Why is it that it will connect some times and not others. I looked at the server, and there are plenty of addresses to hand out. Im at a loss. Nick
