Windows 7 startup problem
My laptop is Acer Extensa 5630EZ, dual core @ 2.0GHz each processor's speed. The advised operating system was Vista or XP but I got Windows 7 installed in it. The version is ultimate and has no such issues as might be for the pirated one. I have been using Windows 7 in my laptop for the last 4 months and it was working all fine. However, there's been some startup problem for the last one month. Whenever I turn on my system, the screen goes black. After a while, small multi-colored dots start appearing on the screen and the color of the screen begins to fade away. If the speakers are on, one can hear the typical windows7 startup tones but there is no display. What I do as a solution is, I turn off the laptop, take out the battery, restart the laptop without having the battery inserted, then replace the battery and then restart once again. The display problem disappears and my windows start operating normally. But now from the last week, I have to take out the battery and repeat all the restarting procedure for about 4 to 5 or more times until my system finally starts displaying properly. Once the display issue is resolved, I encounter no other problem in the working of the operating system. I am so worried about it because I have no idea if this problem is hardware related or software related. Will reinstalling the Windows avert this problem or is it due to some internal hardware problem of the laptop? If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, please do help me out. Thanks very much.

Hello Masooma1, Welcome to Microsoft TechNet Forums! I see you have problems with display. I recommend you to try the following: 1: Bring your laptop to Acer for control and let them check if it has something to deal with your laptop-screen. 2: If your Laptop was not Compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate, I highly recommend installing the older version of your system. 3: Is your system compatible with 32-bits or 64-bits? if you installed the wrong one, You can back-up everything and Re-install your system with the real Bit-version. 4: Try booting in Safe-Mode. 5: Is your laptop-hardware compatible with your windows version? 6: Have you ever got any BSOD lately? (Blue Screen of Death). ±D.... Reply my questions back :) I highly recommend bringing your laptop to Acer for control. I bring my Laptop also to Acer if there is something wrong with it. EmreTezel,

Hi EmreTezel! Thank you so much. I am going to take my laptop to Acer today. I just hope there isn't any major problem in there. As for your questions, here are the answers :) 2. My laptop had DOS in it and it is compatible with both XP and Vista. There wasn't anything about it being compatible with Windows 7 or not. 3. It is compatible with 64-bits and the Windows 7 installed is also the 64-bit version. 4. When do I start it in safe-mode? I mean whenever this display problem occurs, I should restart my system and enter the safe mode? 5. I don't know if it is or not. Even the drivers' CD I got with it has drivers for XP and Vista (both 32 and 64 bit versions), but there wasn't anything about Windows 7. However, I installed the audio and bluetooth and other drivers of Vista 64 from that CD because a Friend told me they would work fine with Windows 7 as well. 6. No, I haven't got the BSOD ever, thank God! There's been another problem now. Last night, I turned off my system and it was all fine. Today when I started it in the morning and plugged in the charger, the battery icon got a small red cross on it with a warning saying, 'Plugged in-charging. Consider replacing your battery'. It is the first time I got such message. And the battery time has been depleting drastically over the last two weeks (I guess that's due to the way too much taking out and putting back of the battery :(...) Plus, I'm not aware if there's any Acer in my city. I purchased my laptop from a renowned dealer who deals in other brands as well. They probably have a workshop where they troubleshoot any such problems. Will it be fine taking it to them?

Hello masooma1, I see you have problems with your battery. I think there are problems with your laptop, and not the OS. http://www.acer.com/ You could try finding the closest place where they repair Acer-Products. If there is a telephone-number in it, I would call them and tell your problem. I am not willing to stop help you, I will try helping you untill your problem is over. I know these service´s because I got an Acer Extensa 5230E. I brought that laptop acouple times to Acer. THIS IS WHAT THEY DO WITH YOUR LAPTOP AT ACER: 1: They try acouple of tests. 2: If there are problems with the battery, They replace it. 3: They do the latest updates for your Acer-Products. 4: Afther they find the issue, they will repair it, and send it as fast as they can back! Hope Acer will help you with it, EmreTezel

Hi, Actually, they can be two different issues. Regarding the “Consider replacing your battery” message, please refer to the link below: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/530fb25c-6239-4a40-93c5-309dcee030e6 Regarding the first issue at startup, I suggest you insert the battery and restart the machine in Safe Mode to check whether the system can startup normally. If there is still no screen at startup in Safe Mode, it can occur by hardware and you may need involve the manufacturer for further assistance. If everything is working fine in Safe Mode, this issue may occur by incompatible third party programs or driver. I suggest you upgrade the Display card driver and perform a Clean Boot to check the result. One thing to try after safe mode, press f8 right after bios splash or hardware detection and select from advanced choice to start in "low resolutoin" to disable graphics acceleration. Althouh usually not, it is possible that windows update may have installed an incompatible graphics driver since the problem did not occur for the first four months..

Hi, First of all, thanks a lot everyone for your help! I live in Pakistan. I just checked out at the webiste, there isn't any branch of Acer here. However, I took my laptop to the dealer from where i bought it. The technician there, checked out my laptop and told me that there could be the following issues with it. 1. The start-up strip or starter might be having some problem. (I had no idea about this strip he was talking about so he told me that there's a strip or a started needed for the LCD to turn on. That could be having some problem. Please tell me if any such thing as a starter really exists, because I don't know if it does or if the technician has been able to identify the problem correctly or not.) 2. If the starter is in fine working condition, then the trouble might be with the screen and I would have to have it replaced. The technician connected an external LCD with the laptop via VGA port. The display was all fine and the OS was also working ok. This showed that the problem is not in the software or OS but probably with the screen hardware. However, if my laptop gives the same problem again, I'd try the techniques suggested by you people. Who knows it might be just a matter of screen resolution or something like that and not a severe problem. I also checked out the thread posted by NOVAK WU and i'm going to write an email to them, telling about the battery issue and all. I need your suggestions about whether the problem identified by that technician could really be the one. And please anything you know about the starter or strip, do share it as well. And since I don't have any Acer in my area, what should I do now? Thanks :)
