Windows 7 sould allocation mechanism
hi, I have recently installed win 7 and i have a sound Oriented question: In win XP and Vista, once you have selected a sound device and launched a program, the program launched "rememberd" the sould device selected and continued using it, even when u change the defoults, For example, if sound device "A" is selected, and iTunes is launched, iTunes had continued to use sound device "A" even if the system's default was changed. In Win 7, the situation is different, once a sound device is changed, it effects all open programs. meaning, that if iTunes is open, i can swich from sound device "A" to "B" and the sound from iTunes follows. Is there any way to "tell" windows to send the sound from a specifit software/application to a specific sound device? Mind that not all applications allows user to choose what sound device to use. many thanks :) Roy

Hi RoYgIL,
Based on my test, this option is not availed in Windows 7.
However, according to this MSDN article, Windows 7 has the ability to distinguish between communication devices and all other audio devices. If you set a default communication device, this device is used primarily for communications, that is, to place or receive phone calls on the computer. A communication application can use Core Audio components to get a reference to the endpoint of the default communication device and render audio streams for communication purposes. The operating system considers the stream opened on a communication device to be a communication stream.
In addition, as mentioned in my previous post, this feature can be realized in certain applications such as Windows Media Player.

Linda
