Windows 7 sleep mode:
Been using 7, build 7100for 2 months and love it. Have two small problems I would like to solve.1) When I put it in sleep mode works correctly but, in 3 to 5 minutes it wakes by itself. After another 5 to 10 minutes the system goes back into sleep mode. Why?2) After coming out of sleep mode I have no sound. "says no sound card installed on this computer"Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Koger - Windows 7's sleep modes have been known to have issues. Hopefully, they've been fixed in the RTM version. In the mean time, you might want to make sure you've got you've got the most up to date drivers for the sound card installed. It sounds like whatever driver you're currently using is not reinitializing the card when it's coming out of sleep. As far as the machine wanting to go back to sleep - how long is the timer set for before it's supposed to go to sleep? Are you actually doing something with the computer when it goes to sleep? or is it sitting there idling?

Thanks for your quick reply Wolfie2k6.The computer is idle all the time while sleep for maybe 5 minutes then awake for about 5 minutes, sometimes it will stay in sleep mode till I wake it . Not a serious problem for me just thought it might be an easy fix. I will wait for my retail copy arrives. Again, many thanks. George

All of the issues I had with sleep mode when running the RC have been resolved in the RTM release. It stays asleep whenI place it in sleep mode and wakes up normally. When I checked the power efficiency via powercfg -energy, there are also now no internal devicesreporting errorsthat could keep my HP laptop from correctly entering sleep mode -sevendevices reported sleep disrupting errors with the RC. Actually, I have seen at least a 50% improvement in laptop battery life with the RTM as well. Power management is substantially improved and beats both Vista and XP with my hardware. It was a pleasant surprise after working on my HP laptop (with WIFI engaged) for an hour in a hotel lobby last week to still have an 80% charge.BTW, that rate of discharge held up as I continued to use the laptop - it wasn't that it was just good at first and then declined rapidly with prolonged use. First time I have ever had a laptop's battery performance be in the ballpark of the manufacturer's claimed numbers. If they fix the RTM installer issues, this looks like Microsoft's best OS to date. I have found that power management, memory management, stability, and overall speed are all improved over the RC. The only big issues from my perspective are the installer problems....Stephen

I have recently installed the x64 RTM version and I am having the same sleep problems described here. My machine will not sleep by itself, nor hibernate. If I put it to sleep it will nod off for a bit, and then wake up again in about five minutes or so. In the x64 RC I found that unchecking the "allow this device to wake computer" checkbox in the network adapter properties solved my problem (device manager --> network adapters --> properties --> power management tab...try that Kroger). So far it has not worked with he RTM version. So, we've taken a step backward form the RC to the RTM... and I was hoping the sleep issues would be fixed... I am still receiving a lot of errors in my powercfg -energy report as well. Mostly related to USB root hubs and MS keyboard/mouse receiver. Glad to hear it's working well for some though.

Hi KogerTo resolve this problem go to Computer and right click manage, then go to Device Manager and go to network adapters, go to every single adapter and right click then properties and go to Power Management THEN untick ( Allow this device to wake up the computer). Hope this helps.
