Windows 7 shut down does not turn off PC
Hi I have just installed Windows 7 64bitfor the second time. Clean install on an Intel pentium D 3.40ghz, 4 gig ram, NVidia GForce 8800 GTS 640meg, Initially the PC shuts down as normal, but after installing the first couple of updates the PC will no longer turn off, I have to do it manually, any ideas?

I don't now what causes this but I have the same issue. I have an Asus motherboard, I think it may have something to do with that, maybe and acpi issue.

I have checked all my power management settings, but all are set to Shut Down the computer. I have looked on the Asus website, but cannot see any mention of the problem there. I am curious to know if anyone has this issue who does not have an Asus motherboard.

Same story. Asus board and no shutty downy. Back to the old days of pressing the big button until they sort it out, I guess.

I'm afraid that this will stand as a bug for the time being - hopefully, Asus will release updates drivers prior to the commercial release of Windows 7.-Alex

I've a P5N32 SLI Deluxe SE board and I've found the same issue on both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 RC. I've noticed if the system needs to reboot, it spends ages trying to shut down and then blue screens, reporting something about the power. I've got the latest bios from Asus but this still a 2007 issue so no help there.

I think someone found the solution!! Lemon75 comments the following on Mini Tech Blog : lemon75 says: May 23, 2009 at 11:31 pm Heres the solution! Click Start, on Computer click right mouse button and select Properties, click Device Manager, select IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers group, only contains one device called VIA 1394 OHCI Compilant Host COntroller on that click right mouse button and select Properties, select Power Management tab, and finally check the Allow the computer to tur off this device to save power box! Thats all folks. After that the computer power down normally every time. I tried to shut down several times and it seems it actually works!

I have a Gigabyte P55 motherboard with a card to support Firewire IEE 1394. Firstly, the firewire doesn't work (Shows an error in Device Manager) and secondly, I have the same problem (not switching off) - Iwill try this solution soon. Just thought it interesting - seems to be a firewire thing - I'm curious whether the firewire on these Asus boards actually works.
