Windows 7 save as bug?
Hi, I've come across a strange issue and can't find anything about it. I'm trying to save a file from an application (Ctrl+s). The standard Windows dialogue box comes up, asking me to name the file. I click on another file in the folder (say "Document4July9"). The name of this document then appears in the file name field. I change one character in the file name (say "Document5July9"). Now I click okay to say the new document with the new name. BUT, Windows asks me if I want to overwrite the previous file. In other words, although the save field clearly shows "Document5July9", Windows asks me if I want to overwrite "Document4July9"!! Very strange. Anyone seen this before?

Which application are you trying to save from? I have not seen that problem.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. In this case, it is Adobe Acrobat 7.

I just tested on two other applications (Notepad and Excel2010Beta), and the problem does not appear. So maybe it is simply that Acrobat 7 is not officially supported on Windows 7?

I guess it's possible that Acrobat could be the problem. I have tried it with a number of applications and it seems to operated normally.

Okay, thanks. If it reappears elsewhere I'll post back.

I guess you changed character by selecting it with mouse. You can position your mouse behind characters you want to change, delete it with backspace and type new one. If you change file name this way, field notify changes!? I believe this is windows bug (very annoying and can cause loosing previous file permanently if you're in hurry). I see this behavior in many applications and it is quite old and steady bug (maybe since XP)...
