Windows 7 requires a Network Authentication to add a WLAN with WPA-security
I have been searching and reading lot of posts on Internet regarding the issue of Windows 7 asking for username/password during a wireless connection attempt to a router using WPA, but still I have no solution. So I hope you can help me out here. I start from the begining. I have been using Windows 7, a Netgear WG111T adapter and a Netgear router a long time with WPA-Personal. First running Windows 7 RC1 and for about a month a paid version. Everything was working fine until last week when I replaced my router with a Linksys WRT120N. I use my wireless network with a lot of wi-fi devices like two gaming console, several mobile phones, a wifi-printer and my Windows 7 PC. After replacing the router I used one of my phones to login and change all settings to same as before (on the old one):Mixed networkAuto channelHidden SSIDWPA-Personal 10-bit keyMAC-address filter (added all my devices) All devices connected to the new router upon startup without problem, except from my Windows 7 computer that displayd a red X in the network list. It claimed the network settings didn't match the settings used in my network. I deleted my stored network connection and tried to setup a new one. Windows ask for the SSID and then the key, so far so good. But then it suddenly prompts me to enter a usernamn and password in popup-window called Network Authentication. I have never seen this one before and I don't know what to enter. Used my phone to switch off security and then my Windows 7 PC could connect without problem. Tried to switch on WEP and still I everything worked fine. Then after switching to WPA-Personal (also tried WPA2-Personal) I end up with this Network Authentication again. The only thing I changed was the router, all hardware and drivers in the PC remains the same. Did a firmware upgrade on the router just in case but no change. As I said all my other devices had no problem to connect to the new router without any reconfiguration. Just in case Windows 7 had a problem with a new router using same settings as on old one, I changed the SSID also but no luck. Can anyone give me a hint how to solve this?Is there any way to deactivate this Network Authentication?Of coures it would also be fun to know how this suddelny could appear just because of a different router.Until I can fix this I'm stuck with WEP and that's not good enough. /H PS. Sorry for my english, it's not my mother tongue. DS

Hi, Regarding WPA, please refer to: What are the different wireless network security methods? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Check if 802.1X authentication is enabled in the router. If so, please also check the following: Enable 802.1X authentication 2. Update the driver of the wireless network adapter. 3. Update the software of the router via the following webpage: WRT120N Downloads and Drivers Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice.
