Windows 7 recovery folder - duplicate folders/files
I find I have duplicate sub-folders ("b29f0d15*" ) & files in the W7 recovery folder on C:\. Different dates, but otherwise files (boot.sdi and winre.win) seem identical. Am guessing duplication occurred due to a re-install of Win 7. Also guessing safe to delete earliest of the sub-folders, but thought I'd seek "belt and braces" advice 1st and also to ask why this might have occurred (I would have expected earlier sub-folder to have been over-written on the 2nd install. Hi,The rcovery folder found in the drive root is used when selecting F8 from the boot options screen "repair my computer". Any modification of the folder or drive may lead to corrupting it and you may not be able to restore your computer back to the original state.

Thanks Magon, but it's niggling. A back-up disk image is probably overdue so I'll do that and then delete the earliest of the duplicate folders and see what F8 does then. I'd like to know it still runs OK and the recovery folder is as it should be for an easy system refresh occasionally. (Still makes no sense why my recovery folder holds more than one copy of required files.) RobA

If delete the "b29f0d15*" file, you will never boot into "repair my computer" mode by pressing F8, it will reboot repeatly. I suggest copy the earliest of the duplicate folders before deleting them as a backup in case the PC won't boot up. I think it is reasonable to have a duplicate recovery folder so that if the reinstallation of win7 failed, you can still boot into the "repair my computer" mode.

Delving deeper, I've found remnants of Samsung recovery (from the original OEM Vista install). So, rather than mess about, I'm going straight for a disk reformat/re-partition and another clean install of Win 7. Obviously this will clear everything, so issue negated I think - many thanks Magon for your interest and comments. RobA
