Windows 7 problems
I purchased an HP (64 bit) several months ago and was given a free Windows 7 upgrade. Prior to upgrade I refused to upgrade of IE 8 because of previous problems. I had no porblems with vista and with I has not installed Windows 7. Now I have "no response" at times with IE, have a problem with Windows Explorer? Periodically I am unable to access any programs from the desktop. Other items respond but not the desktop icons. Must then restart to get use back. The backup program works every once and awhile. Usually stops and restarts the computer in the middle of backup. So far I have would no solutions. Any ideas?

Hi, First, I would like to make a summry of the issues encountered: 1. IE shows "no response" 2. Windows Explorer has problem. 3. it fails to access any programs from the Desktop, a restart can resolve the issue. 4. The backup program runs and restart the computer in the middle of backup. If there is any misunderstanding, please let me know. These issues may occur if system files were corrupted during Upgrade. I suggest perform the following steps first: Use the System File Checker (SFC) =========================== 1. Click Start, type "cmd" (without the quote) in the Start Search bar, right-click cmd.exe and click run as administrator. 2. Input the following command and press Enter. sfc /scannow Reset IE ============ Note: the following steps will disable all of installed add-ons and reset IE to default settings. 1. Click the Start Button, type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. 2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset. 3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset. 4. When it finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK twice. If any issue persists, you can test it Clean Boot mode. Please let me know what issues still persist, you can collect System Information and upload it to the http://skydrive.live.com/ using your Live ID and I will check it: System Information ============= 1. Click the Start Button, type "MSINFO32" in the Start Search box and press Enter to start the System Information. 2. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click "File", and click "Save", type a file name and then choose NFO as "Save as type", click Desktop on the left pane, and click Save. (If the Desktop option is not available, please click Browse Folder button first.) 3. Go to the Desktop, right-click on the exported file, choose "Send To" -> "Compressed (zipped) Folder". Upload this file and let me know the linkVivian Xing - MSFT
