According to Ars Technica, MS today announced the prices for Windows. See the full article: http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/06/windows-7-pricing-announced-cheaper-than-vista.ars. The best thingis there will be preorder sales with very decent prices from tomorrow on in the US, from mid Julyin Europe (Home Premium $/ 49.99 - Prof $ 99.99 / 109.99). In Europe, there will only be sold full versions (at upgrade prices!), as there will not be any upgrade versions.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

I'm no MS spokesman nor a sales assistant for MS software, but if the price difference is emphasized nowhere and the only difference mentioned is a mere technical one (64-bit system needs 64-bit cpu, and so on), I would think that's all to say here. But time will tell, it's only a couple of hours.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Hi Asdy,I've been a techncial beta tester for many years now and one of the 'priviso's' of being a beta tester is that you do it for no reward, either monetary or material. The public beta involved many thousands of people, some provided feedback, others didn't. If Microsoft offerred a discount to beta testers to be fair to all, it would need to be run on a system whereby those that provided the most feedback got larger discounts than those that didn't. Now i'm sure you would agree that that wouldn't sit well with everyone, so the easiest way of dealing with the issue to to keep a uniform price for all; that way no one gets upset.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

The FAQ says: How do I know if I am eligible for this offer? To be eligible for the offer, you need to be running a genuine copy of the Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems. I assume you could also be running a legit copy of W7 RC, right?

I don't think so. The "genuineness" of Windows 7 RC is bound to certain restrictions in use. You will notice that past 03/01/2010 there will appear a notification next to the "Evaluation Copy" text on your desktop, saying: "This copy of Windows is not genuine."Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

No. Windows 7 RC1 is not eligible for upgrade pricing of Windows 7 since it is an evaluation license with an expiration date.Only Windows XP or Windows Vista perpetual licenses are eligible for Windows 7 upgrade pricing.Carey Frisch

Does this mean W7 RC testers would need to reinstall Vista before upgrading to the final version of W7 at the promo price?
