Windows 7 on a laptop
1st: I've seen newly advertised laptops with Windows 7 installed, and as far as I know, Windows 7 is scheduled for release on October 22. Does that mean those advertised laptops are still not available until the release of Windows 7? 2nd: I've read some articles on the net that advises to patiently wait for the official release of Windows 7 before buying a new laptop. Do I really have to wait until October 22 to buy a brand-new great running affordable Windows 7-equipped/compatible laptop? Ok, I've seen several Vista-equipped laptops eligible for Windows 7 upgrade, but how does it happen? Will they give me a Windows 7 installation DVD? 3rd: Please suggest me some tips on buying a new laptop. Preferably some brand names, specs and prices.

Hi, Mircosoft allowed some manufacturers to start offering new computers with W7 before the public release OCT 22. If it is a good deal and the laptop meets your requirements go for it. Slan go foill, Paul

Hi, Regarding your 3rd question. If you want to use virtual machines on your laptop, check that the CPU & Motherboard is able to use Virtualization for XPmode. Here are some links to help. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/f8c9fed2-fd86-4064-b1b6-77e97baed7fbhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualizationAs for buying tips. In my opinion I would always buy a brand name (ie Dell, Sony, HP, etc. )Slan go foill, Paul

If your system doesn't support Virtual Mode, you can install Sun VirtualBox which works very well, without direct hardware virtualization support. I have it installed on my Dell Precision 370 with 3 virtual guests, Ubuntu, openSUSE and XP Pro and my hardware does not support virtualization.
