Windows 7 not joining domain correctly
Alright So I've ran into a strange problem. My drive maps were not working through group policy preferences, it was saying "network path not found" yet you could do a //fileserver/share just fine and everything showed up perfectly...i tracked the problem down to being that the pc's account on the domain was not correct or somehow corrupt? When joining PCs to the domain (and I don't have this problem with vista or xp). It seems many of the times the account is not there or after a reboot it says there is no matching account in active directory even though it joined during the process. Often when deploying a windows 7 pc I have to rejoin it to the domain several times.Anyone have any suggestions? This is just windows 7 PCs i'm having issues with. They were deployed and syspreped by System Center SP2John Whites

Our company has started using Windows 7 on a few IT Users PC's as well. And when we first started using it, I noticed the same exact issue with Mapped drives saying 'network path not found' although it worked fine when I went to the actual path. Also, just yesterday morning all users using Windows 7 received the below message when they tried to login:'The security database on the server does not have a computer name for this workstation trust relationship' The only way we found around this is to unplug from the network, login, then plug back in. I found the suggestion to unjoin the domain, reboot, and rejoin the domain, and this worked to log back in the first time. But I just received the error message again this morning. After searching around, this is the only suggestion/fix I have found??

Same problem here. Setting up 4 new computers and each and every one of them has exhibited this same problem. Set up machine, join domain (sucessfully), reboot and logs in fine the first time, after subsequent reboot - second time trying to login gives me the dreaded "no matching account" error. Look at my AD/Computers section and sure enough, no machine account! Every Win7 machine - every time!! I then have to un-join the machine from the domain (set it back to WORKGROUP, for example), rename the machine to something else and then re-join the domain. After that, it seems to work just fine (so far - knock on wood...) and the machine now shows up in AD. This is VERY frustrating and it's obviously a problem MS needs to look into and fix ASAP!!!! Nice job, MS... Your new O/S can't even properly join your own Server AD system! BTw, my AD is a Windows 2003 Standard Server.Edit: The actual error I get when rebooting and logging in for the second time is "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". I get this even though I'm able to join the network domain and login/map drives after the first login upon rebotting after joining the domain. Has happen on every Win7 machine so far. Ridiculous!

We've got the same problem here which causes a ton of authentication issues from accessing DFS Shares to using Outlook 2007 with Exchange. I also found that the computer name was missing from the AD. No matter how many times I tried to rejoin these they just never showed up. So just right click and create a New Computer in an appropriate OU. Then unjoin the PC to a workgroup (don't forget a local admin) and re-join it. All should be well now that the AD has a listing for this PC. Hope it works for you too. But I do agree that it is rediculous. Hope it goes away when I upgrade our Domain to Server 2008.

I found that if I enter/use the .local extension (i.e., mydomain.local) in the Domain box when joining, it works the first time and the machine shows up in the AD and never has a problem thereafter. Not sure why this is the case with Win7, but I only have to do this when joining a Win7 machine. It's like Win7 doesn't know how to resolve or convert the DNS prefix.

Its annoying trying to re-join a few machines to the domain every week. Lucky we only have 1 lab on Windows 7 at the moment.

kagen, Have you tried the suggestions from myself or egypt123? I haven't tried his solution but I have recommended mine to co-workers and they were successful with no residual problems afterwards.

We are having a similiar issue. We have one domain but multiple sites. Our main site has some 2003 DCs and 2008 DCs but our other sites are only 2008. What I noticed today was that if I put a Win 7 machine on the domain at our main site using netbios domain name, it goes on and shows in AD right away. If I put it on using FQDN, it puts it in AD but on a server at our other sites. It is like Win7 and FQDN only likes Server 2008. It will never replicate or show up on the Win 2003 server. Now our server that holds the master roles is the 2003 server so tomorrow I am planning on setting a 2008 as the master and see if that makes a difference.Joe M
