Windows 7 not genuine
Ok I have read other posts on this and my problem is I bought the Sony Vaio about 2 year ago. During the time I was prompted about getting Windows 7 upgrade for free for purchasing the Sony. I never did anything about it but later recieved the
update but then my computer crashed. I took it to my friends too get fix and its been working fine but then everytime on boot up it tells me its not genuine. I went back to Micro Center where I bought the laptop and they told me to call Microsoft.
I been trying to find a number for Microsoft that doesnt charge you for the call. Anyone know what i can do to get this resolved?
When I click the button to resolve the genuine it brings me to a link that says I have to pay for windows 7, I am not about to pay for something that was free to begin with.
If anyone could help I would appreciate it
Thanks

Hi,
please run the Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics Tool (MGADiag) [1]. Inside the tool click "Copy" and paste the output here.

You use a Sony laptop/PC with a Dell OEM key (YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM). This only works if you use a crack (OEM loader). So your friend installed this crack. Install the Vista and use the Windows 7 upgrade you got from Sony."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

I think i am screwed then because I no longer have vista. It was preloaded on my computer and have moved twice in the past 2 years I couldnt even begin to think if I have the disk for vista. Thank you for your information, What will my computer
do if I dont solve this problem of not being genuine?DJC

you can't install additions updates which require WGA, desktop turn to a black wallpaper and you get a lot of popups.
If you lost Windows Vista, buy a Windows 7 license at the MS Store (not on ebay or other untrusted sources which sell illegally Technet licenses which bill be blocked, too):

Thanks for your help, i finally spoke to microsoft and feel as tho I pirated something when honestly that wasnt my intent. I had a free upgrade and my computer crashed and thougth I could fix it after I reinstalled. They no longer give that upgrade
out so I am stuck with having to pay for something when really vista was working ok for me. Just having to find if I have that disk somewhere, do they usually come with the laptop computer already installed? Also if I get the inbetween windows
7 will I have to reboot the entire computer again?DJC

yes. Sometimes you only have a hidden partition which contains recovery files to restore the Windows."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"
