Windows 7 networking failures
Just upgraded a Windows Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 beta 64 bit. Machine was part of an Active Directory Domain (Windows 2003 native forest/domain). All networking that has to do with AD (Kerberos, LDAP, File sharing, Print Sharing, etc) works fine. Remote Desktop works fine both connecting to other machines and connectin got this one via RDP. IPSec encryption works fine (I use IPSec with certificate authentication to encrypt TCP port 445 traffic). However the Windows machine can do nothing else. It cannot bind to port 514 (to receive syslog info), cannot connect the ISA firewall for internet (firewall client was installed but it cannot find server), cannot connect directly to internet or do anything else network related. When I bring up Internet explorer it does not even go out and attempt to access the internet, either directly or via proxy connection. Bind errors appears in the event log. I tried disabling BFE, IPSec and Windows Firewall but it has not effect. Computer shows that grop policy is being applied correctly. It appears that Windows 7 is forcibly diabling any outside networking except that which is necessary for Active Directory. RDP is not necessary however i am able to conect to other machines. I there a resolution for this or is Windows 7 supposed to behave this way in beta?

HiIse troubleshooter or network diagnoze to find out that is causeng your problem and to fix it.Your network type must be set as work networkI do not thing it is good idea to change default settings on OS you see for first time, before to test how it works.

network troubleshooter is no help is tells me nothing.network is a work network. group policy object specify what ports to open and group [policy objects are applying successfully. only LAN connections are allowed. all LAN devices are pingable, and I can tracroute out to web site, just cannot connect via port 80 (direct) or via port 8080 (ISA Server proxy)

Is access type specified in network and sharing center displayed as Local and Internet? There is few ways to check network connectivity, you can check with troubleshooter or in network and sharing center fix network problem option. If you use second one you can select what you want to be checked for problems and after check finish you can select to see what is detected and how it is fixed(if something is fixed of course)

Is access type specified in network and sharing center displayed as Local and Internet? The network is specified as local only, domain network. This computer is part of an Active Directory Domain so teh domain setting is correct. This was always troubling to me in Vista; I could never figure out how to change to "Local and Internet" There is few ways to check network connectivity, you can check with troubleshooter or in network and sharing center fix network problem option. troubleshooter and "fix network problem" optioncannot identify the problem

also http connection internally do not work as well. i have MOM, WSUS and Forefront Client Security install locally on my LAN. prior to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 64 bit to Windows 7 64 bit this machine was connectingto the local WSUS server to obtain updates. It no longer does. no outbound http connections are allowed, the machine does not even attempt to make a connection. Same holds true for proxy, SSH any other protocol/application I try. Only AD connections are allowed.

note failure error 0x8009001d occurs in windowsupdate.log file when attempting to update the forefront AV signatures. the http connection to the WSUS appears to work but that is the only http connection that does. It is enabled by a GPO (group policy object)

If your network type is local only you will not be able to connect to internetProbably your gateway is not specified and you need to use a proxy to go outOpen and set IE connection options (and maybe securityoptions)correctly according to your network configuration

Local and Internet now appears in network and sharing center however am unable to connect to internet or do anything WAN related. Please note that I changes nothing pre-upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, the Vista machine was and Windows 7 is a memeber of AD domain, and connections worked pre-upgrade. I can now see web queries going out when i try to send feedback but no connection is achieved. Also microsoft outlook cannot connect to local echange server even though it is pingable. other AD conections between domain controllers work. This is frustrating but hey it is beta.

do not understand question exactly. the network diagnostic shows nothing. AD connections work, icmp pings work (LAN and Internet), traceroute works (LAN and Internet), machine does connect to ISA Server proxy sometimes however ISA Firewall client is not working. The event logs show udp packets from various devices being blocked (udp port 514). I have no rule for this blockage in fact my firewall allows these packets for my syslog server which is installed on this machine. troubleshooting/network diagnostic cannot idetify any problems. The conection shows "Local And Internet"

also Windows 7 does not recognize my antivirus program, even though it is Microsoft Forefront Client Security. Windows 7 tells me it is off even though it is on.

You must run network troubleshoot from network and sharing center - fix network problem optionThen try all available optionsWhen some of check finish you are informed that some test are not done because are required more privileged and you must click option to run again with administrator privileges. After each test finish you have a option in left-down corner of dialog that gives you test log.Check this test log to find out if it is found problems and what are they

i am an administrator and i am running wiht adminitrator privileges. the network diagnostic/troubleshooter showed no issues. any attempt to do any other research requires an internet connection which as i have said is not working along with a host of other protocols and services.

Ok, but you will have Administrator privileges only if you have loged in Administrator account, that is disabled by default. If account controll is dissabled then it may cause a lot of unexpected problems.Did you tried to set proxy in IE or to uncheck automatically detect settings option in IE lan connection settings?

the account was an admin account before upgrade. logging in with other accounts (domain admin) have same result. spent too much time and have given up. going to do a fresh install and rejoin to domain. My recommendation is to not upgrade a 64 bit vista to Windows 7 while joined to an AD domain. i suspect that maybe having the ISA firewall client agnt installed may have had something to do with screwing up the networking. Oh well it is beta after all.

you have to use the 64bit verison of internet explorer to get the internet to work
