Windows 7 networking
you know how you can have windows 7 create maps of your LAN and WLAN networks. well, that does not seem to be working for me properly.I have two network cards in my notebook PC, an internal one and a PCMCIA one from 1995. the PCMCIA one shows the map properly minus the other PCs on the network. while other internal network wi-fi adapter cannot generate a network map at all for some odd reason. does any one know why this is?In Vista i just got duplicate maps, plus the computer showed itself twice on the mao because of its second network adapter, or sometimes three times if i had the LAN adapter enabled. you would really think that the OS would realize that it was on the network more than once...using multiple network adapters...now, how to fix this windows 7 issue...

Hi, Which network does the internal network adapter connect to? Are the two adapters connect to a same network? Maybe your internal network adapter is not connected to a network so it cannot generate a network map. I suggest that you temporary disable the external adapter and connect the internet card to a network. If the connection does not work, try to download the latest network adapter driver and install it. If the adapter still does not work, we could consider that the device is not compatible.Arthur Xie - MSFT

they are both connected to the same network.when i take out the PCMCIA WLAN adapter the internal adapter then shows its network map just fine. its just that when they ae both connected to the PC at the same time that the internal WLAN adapter cannot generate a network map. and by the way the PCMCIA card has no recent drivers. its support dropped back it 2002/2003 or so. but other than that both devices are running the latest drivers when i am using them at the same time. i would like to have network maps for both devices at the same time. and not just one network map for one device or the other, which is what is accurring now.

Hi Steven, If you connect the two adapters that are on one computer to a same network, a network loop back will be created. In this case the whole network would be disabled. Your router may have a loopback-protect function that disable one of the Network adapter when loopback exists. Therefore, one of the network adapters should not communicate with the router.Arthur Xie - MSFT

i don't know if the router does because in vista the wireless cards show duplicate network maps... with the PC appearing twice. at least in Windows 7,one of the network maps seems to get blocked out for some odd reason. for all i know this is the feature you are tlking about. but it only applies to the wireless so, i guess not... theissues still exists when i use the LAN network simatamiously with the wi-fi network. oh well... at least the issue does not happen with two wi-fo adapters in Windows 7...but what causes there to be only one network mapfor when i am using two wi-fi adapters... i really would like this issue fixed. and i know its not my router...

Hi Steven, I suggest that you check if the default gateway is correct when you enable both adapters. You may enter ipconfig /all in command prompt and check it. You may also show the result of ipconfig /all in your post. If the default gateway of the problematic network adapter is incorrect, pleas manually set. Then check if the issue persists. Hi Steven, Would you please capture screenshots of your Network and Sharing Center and the generated network maps? Please upload the pictures in the Skydrive of your Live Space, give us privilege for reading the log, and let us know the address. SkydriveArthur Xie - MSFT
