Windows 7 network problems after updates
Sony laptop with W7 X64 Pro connected to a domain. User complained that Synctoy not working between this laptop and his XP Pro Desktop. Found that XP machines not visible, W7, Vista and 2008 server machines with shares were visible but the shares were not accessible. Outlook/Exchange working OK and Internet access OK so basic network functionality OK. Went back to seccessive restore points and got it working (pre 11 August 2010). Then went through process of progressively installing updates and isolated the one causing the problem (lost my note as to which one) and turned off automatic updates. This problem came back after a few weeks and going back to that restore point failed to fix it. I am now approaching the problem again but unable to go back prior to 25 August. I installed all latest updates and problem still exists. Any thoughts?Graham Nutt

Hi Graham, First, please let me know the names and IDs of the updates which you have installed before the issue occurs. Also, are there any errors received when user complained that Synctoy not working between this laptop and his XP Pro Desktop? Currently, can the Windows XP Professional desktop and the laptop access each other’s share folders? please check if the latest Synctoy version is installed. If not, please download it here. I suggest booting the systems in Clean Boot to test this issue. Additionally, please let me know if the other computers in the domain encounter the same problem. It's fixed on my side now! So I would bet it will be on your side too... You should visit this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903267/en-us Apply the manual fix recommended by Microsoft (not the "Fix it" patch) by editing the registry db. After restarted everything works perfectly.
