Windows 7 network discovery fails to see windows xp pcs in browser
I have windows xp and 2000 pcs in a 2003 server domain environment. I have a few Windows 7 pcs, maybe 4. Whenever they connect to the network, even if they are fresh out of the box they are only able to see other Winhdows 7 pcs. Do I need to upgrade to a windows 2008 domain controler for this to work. ? Ive noticed that it will initially work but then fail after 15 minutes. If I turn off network discovery it will search again and find the pcs. Even this will not work after the second toime doing it. I have disabled the firewall even though network discovery is checked. This helps but only temporarily. I have enabled Logiocal Link Mapper and this only helps temporarily. Is there a way to get Windows 7 pcs in the network browser to see other operatings systems besides 7 in a 2003 environment ? Also is there a way to get it to work without having to go thru discovery? Thanks alot

Hi, I would like to confirm that can you ping the other computers successfully? I would like to suggest you run the Network troubleshooter first. You may install the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component on the Windows XP-based computer to test the issue. For more information, please refer to the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120 If it does not work, I also suggest you disable IPv6 or enable NetBIOS to check the result. If you have antivirus program installed, please also temporarily disable it to troubleshoot the issue. What’s the result?
