Windows 7 network connection (file sharing) timout setting, is there one?
At our business we are using server 2003 on our current main file server and attempting to use win 7 for additional network file storage. The problem we are running into is that we end up having more than 20 simultaneous connections because users leave folders open, or their computers stay connected even after closing out of folders. There are never more than 2-3 simultaneous users accessing file storage on the windows 7 computer but sometimes many connections stay open and we get maximum user access warnings (over 20). Is there a way to time out users from the windows 7 file storage computer so that after "x" amount of time at idle they will be kicked and not tie up the connection and limit other users? Thanks. Hi, According to you description, I suggest you try to change the setting of Network Idle Session Time to Automatically Disconnect: 1. In the elevated command prompt, type in following command and press Enter: NOTE: Replace XX with a value of -1 to 65535 minutes. For 30 minutes, you would type: net config server /autodisconnect:30 WARNING: -1 is to never autodisconnect, and 0 (number zero) will cause an almost instant autodisconnect. net config server /autodisconnect:XX 2. You will get a The command completed successfully message afterwards. Hope it helps.
