Windows 7 misreads NIC MAC addresses?
I have set my PC to have a fixed IP address on my LAN. I noticed that it had picked up a different one. In short, I think Windows 7 may have issues with reading MAC addresses of NIC cards. It is reported correctly in XP, but I have seen *three* variations of it under Windows 7 in the past 30 mins - each time a couplet (2 characters between colons) was replaced by a 00 (double zero). I wonder if some of you could check this out (at a command prompt "ipconfig /all"). Currently, Win 7 sees my MAC as 00-50-FC-72-00-00; whereas it should be 00:50:FC:72:4E:BC. This is playing havoc with my router's port forwarding. TIA DrT

Hi, May I know where you notice the MAC Address 00:50:FC:72:4E:BC? If there is a update for your NIC in Windows 7, please update it and see how it works. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

I notice the MAC in my router and a copy of XP that I have on the same PC (and Linux if I can mention it here <g>). I have had the same NIC for ages and the quoted MAC IS correct. The latest Win7 driver is being used. I have had to enter the correct MAC in my driver to 'fix' the problem. TIA DrT
