Windows 7 machine Cannot connect to the Internet
Hi All, I have a strange problem. Recently We bought few new Dell desktops & I installed windows 7. My network environment is windows 2003 server with DHCP enabled One of the machines have a strange problem that I cannot browse the internet. Then i re installed the machine again an have the same issue. I did some commom diagnostic commands like re register dns , flush dns etc but no effect. After a while I realized that I can access the Internet from IP address but not from the DNS name. When I view the Adaptor properties then i can see that the machine got a proper IP address , default gateway etc frm the DHCP server. As a temporary solution I gave an static IP for that machine & then its working as ususal. I can keep that machine like that but wondering where is the case! Dell Support confirmed that there are no hardware issues but this is something regards to OS issue & they can correct that & I need to pay to do that which I was bit angry with dell! Many Thanks

at the cdm line run nslookup it will return some stuff like below Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>nslookup Default Server: dns.msy.bellsouth.net Address: 205.152.132.23 now at the > type in " server 208.67.222.222 " it should return > server 208.67.222.222 Default Server: resolver1.opendns.com Address: 208.67.222.222 If it does then type abc.com at the > and press enter does it reslove the IP?? And just so you know Dell install's OEM windows software THEY MUST support it as per the license with Microsoft, if you only have a Home class dell then you are talking to "help desk" folks who can just spell computer, demand to be push to a higher level of support.

Are you sure that your client computer is receiving the IP address of the DNS server from the DHCP server? Try to fix only the DNS IP address and check if the problem is persisting. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Best regards.

Hi, Here is the result: >abc.com server: 208.67.222.222 Address:208.67.222.222 Non-Authorative answer: Name : abc.com Address:199.181.132.250 I noticed something else as well. as i told you it took the IP address from the DHCP server. The taken IP is 10.1.1.50 After i given a static IP for this machine its working as normal. I got the same problem for another machine after a restart. I noticed that it aslo has taken the IP 10.1.1.50. My DHCP Ip range is 10.1.1.50 to 10.1.1.150 So its looks like a problem isolated to this IP?? Any Idea? Many Thanks

OK. Try to exclude this IP address from your DHCP IP range and check if the problem is persisting or not. If the problem is the same, please give me the result of this command: ipconfig /all
