Windows 7 logon
I had installed Widows 7 Ultimate a while back. Yesterday I could not logon with my password (User Profile service Failed the Logon. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded) Anyway I reinstalled the ISO disk and everything went smoothlyu. However, I now have a Windows 7.old file or partition and transferred some programs over to the new Windows 7 installation. Can I now delete this Windows 7.old without any trouble? also what steps should I take to ensure this doesn't happen again? James A, Thank you

Assuming that you've recovered all data that you need from the Windows.old file, then, yes - you can go ahead and delete it.Note, though, that you cannot delete Windows.old. Rather, you need to run Disc Cleanup to delete that.As to having it not happen again: From the sounds of things, I'd say that your user profile was corrupted somehow. How, exactly, it happened, though, is impossible to say at this point. You reinstalled Windows - therefore, any clues that may have existed are gone.A good practice to follow, though, is to have a second Adminstrator-level (and, prefereably, password-protected) account on the machine (to use in case of emergencies.) That way, you can log in with the emergency account, create a new userprofile for yourself, and copy data from 'old' to 'new' profiles. Much faster than reinstalling the OS. ;)HTH,Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
