Windows 7 locks up PC and kills network during hybrid sleep
Sometime after my PC "goes into some kind of sleep", the PC locks up and kills the network. Details: The system works fine until I take a break from using the machine. After a few minutes, the screen goes black (per power-management), and then sometime later, all other devices on my network loose connectivity to each other and to the Internet. I try moving the mouse and touching the keyboard on this computer to wake it up, but nothing happens. If I unplug the network cable, then the other PCs regain connectivity. If I replug it in, the network looses connectivity again. Tapping the power buton has no effect. I have to either press the reset button, or hold the power button to restart the system. Nothing helpful is logged in the event logs. I have set the power management profile to "High Performance". I am using Windows 7 x64 w/SP1. I have a DP67DE motherboard with onboard network. I have installed the current drivers from Intel for the motherboard devices and NVidia card. I have installed all updates via Windows Update. I really need help. Thanks in advance! Note: If the network cable is left unplugged, the computer never freezes up.

Try to change the hardware and see if the issue goes away. Wolfgang

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Update network card driver and update BIOS to the latest version. 2 Go to “Device Manager”, right click network card in “Network adapters”, choose “Power management” tab, do not choose the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. 3 Right click mouse and keyboard in “Device manager”, go to choose “Power management”, select the option “Allow this device to wake the computer”. If the issue persists, try to login with Clean Boot, and change a power plan for test. Hope that helps. Before I posted my request for help, I had already updated the BIOS and network drivers to the most current versions. So, that's not the issue. On Intel network drivers, the "Power Management" tab in the device manager is replaced by a custom tab that doesn't have the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" setting. I have fiddled with the options there, but without success. The mouse and keyboard power management settings you specified are the defaults, and did not require changes. I tried the clean boot, but the problem continued to appear. It's a fresh Windows 7 installation with drivers installed only. No software installed, so I didn't expect the clean boot to help. Since the nic is an on-board motherboard device, I reflashed the BIOS to the same version. I also reinstalled Windows 7 and all drivers. I document all my computer builds, so I followed the same procedure. I didn't expect the problem to be resolved because I did nothing different on the rebuild. However, this problem has not reappeared. I don't know what solved the problem. I'm certain I installed the same versions of the same drivers in the same order during the rebuild. But obviously, something is different. I wish I knew what it was. Thanks for the tips!-Tony
