Windows 7 locking up with a White background
I am having issues with Windows 7 locking up with a White background. Sometimes the audio continues but not every time. Crtl Alt Del does not do anything and my only option is to hold down the power button to force a hard shutdown. I do not get any dump files even if I leave the system in that state for hours. I have updated my BIOS to the latest, I have all of the latest drivers for my system but nothing seems to correct the problem. I have tried replacing the Video card and RAM but again, nothing corrects the issue. Any suggestions?

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode to see if the problem persists? If that works fine then proceed to a Clean Boot If Safe Mode doesn't work, then change the monitor out to see if the issue is still there. At this point we don't know if the system is locking up since you are unable to verify if there's any activity, however if you can normally log into the machine and its an application that causing the problem, then we need to know if any certain problem you're running is causing the problem. When did you first notice the problem and what happened just prior to that? What applications were recently installed, etc. Some AV programs and some 3rd party firewalls could be at play here. Identify any non-microsoft applications you install before you started experiencing these errors.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I first noticed the problem when I tried to install Fallout 3. The game would play for a few seconds and then the screen would go white or black and I would get a buzzing sound through the speakers. After giving up on trying to troubleshoot that issuea and removing the game, it started happening when I used IE 8. Doesn't matter what page I am on or not, it is hit or miss. It has also happened a few times when I am not using the computer, I come in and it is in that state. I have not tried safe mode or changed the monitor out. Do you think that it is the monitor? I have under clocked my CPU from 2.67GHx to 2.0GHz to see if that helpsI have run memtest which found no errorsI have run scandisk which found no errosSystemMonitor Samsung SyncMaster 245BWVideo Nvidia GTX 260 - Liquid Cooled at 32 CMainboard ASUS P6T V2 DeluxeProc Core i7 920 (4x 2.67GHz) HT disabled - Liquid Cooled at 35 CRAM 12GB Corsair 1333 (6 x 2GB sticks)HDD Intel X25-M 160GB SSD (using Enhanced SATA)OS Windows 7 64-bit

I am in Safe Mode with networking now. We'll see if it happens again but nothing so far.

If Safe Mode with networking does not occurs, the issue is caused by software conflict, no need to change the monitor. I suggest proceed to clean boot as the first post stated. If the issue persists in clean boot, reinstall the display card driver, it may be corrupted somehow.Clean Boot =============This method will disable loading program or service from start up to avoid conflict 1. Click "Start",and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment. In addition, If the issue occurs recently, system restore can be undersideration.

All this discussion about rebooting is of no help. I've done that and things seem ok for awhile but, the problem comes right back. If I use "chrome" there is no problem. Also my pc at work doesn't have this problem. So I guess there is a problem with my configuration or some part or IE8 on this machine.
