Windows 7 lock up at desktop
Thanks for taking the time to look at this problem for me. I have had Windows 7 RC for about 3 weeks now, and it hasnt had any problems whatsoever, until yesterday. I turn on my PC, pick Windows 7, it loads into Windows just fine. The problem is once I am in Windows I cannot do anything. I can click and drag a blue box and fiddle with my task tray where the clock is but that is it. I cannot open any programs, IE, Firefox, Ventrillo, Ect. I cannot right click on any icon. I cannot even open the start menu. I just get the wait icon for my mouse curser no matter what I choose to do. I have let it sit there for 10 minutes and it opened nothing. Eventually parts of the screen tweek out and go white. All the while I can still use my mouse and the keyboard lights (Num Lock, Caps) I can still turn them on and off, so it's not a complete lock up. I have tried rebooting with my network cable umplugged, and still nothing. From the day that I had it working fine to this I have installed and downloaded nothing. Nothing was changed from when it worked perfectthe day before. I have Comodo Internet Firewall & AV installed, but I have had that since day 1 of installation of Windows 7. Any help would be great, thanks.

Ok, did a virus scan from XP on the Windows 7 HD and was clean. I uninstalled Comodo Internet Firewall from Windows 7 safe mode and it seems to have fixed it. I dont know what went wrong, I had Comodo installed from day 1 of my Win 7 installation and no problems. Might have to try a different firewall/av like AVG. Thanks for the help. Loving Win7!

Hmm.. Comodo may not be compatible with win7 yet, have you checked their site yet for an update to Comodo that will wok with win7? You can also try Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (malwarebytes.org ) Glad I could help!Hello! I have the same issue (windows 7 rc 64bit, latest comodo). Comodo is the culprit. Ever since the last round of windows updates, it causes problems. Just disable the comodo service from safe mode, and the system works properly (but comodo doesn't obviously)

This lockup with Comodo happened in XP as well.. I have Comodo on Windows 7 and my friends and family have Win XP Pro SP3... Just uninstall, re-install, update AV definitions twice.. works fine again.. in Windows 7 too.

FYI, I do not have Comodo and I had this problem as well. I do have AVG Free, but it turns out the problem was related to Aero and a process required to run it that allows for the "see thru" you get on the desktop. I sent a report to MS, but once I went to "Windows Classic" or something that did not involve Aero support the lockups stopped. I can not think back as to when this problem started. I tried updating drivers, disabling this and that and the error just popped up one day instead of the desktop locking up resulting in a hard reboot. It is possible that AV and other security apps dont interact with Aero well, but that was what it was for me. Just FYI for anyone who has this problem and doesnt have Comodo.
