Windows 7 local network issues
I recently upgraded to windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) from windows vista, and ever since I've been having networking issues. Basically every minute to an hour i lose connection to the internet, when i then run the Windows Network Diagnostics it analyses the problem and eventually goes to the step "reset the local area adapter" and the issue is instantly fixed, however anywhere between about 1 minute and an hour later my connection will be gone again (for example i tried making this post about 5x on my other pc but trying to submit it got me kicked off every time). The problem it says it has is " the default gateway is not available". I had absolutely no issues like this before however right now i am unable to do anything useful on the internet. If it helps my pc is connected through a local hub which is plugged into the university network (I live in student housing) so it would seem unlikely it's got anything to do with the internet or router, as far as i can tell it's a network connection issue.

Could be a bad cable or bad connection or a flaky hub, but if you had recently upgraded then the most likely culprit is an incorrect driver. However now you're mentioning another pc which also seems to have the same problem. If that's the case then I'd contact the local university IT dept. Have you enabled network discovery? Have you upgraded the drivers to Windows 7 drivers for your machine yet? Have you updated the bios and firmware? What is your machine make, model and model # (be very specific) - don't just give machine make and model # without the model name (HP is kinda funny about specifics along with others). It could be there are no Windows 7 drivers suitable and you'll have to resort to installing Vista drivers in vista compatibility mode to get it functioning. Also turn off power saving on your network adapters, they are notorious for turning off the network device even while its in useMCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi, This issue can occur if the NIC driver is not compatible or router setting is incorrect. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Download the latest NIC driver and check the result. If the NIV driver is already the latest one, I suggest you replace another version and install it in Compatibility Mode for a test. 2. Bypass the router or switcher and connect to DSL Modem directly. Does the issue persist? Thanks, Novak

Hey thanks for the suggestions sorry for the slow delay i thought it was resolved but turns out the issue persists. First i can safely say it is not a problem with the hub as the PC i'm using to write this response right now and my xbox both have no connectivity issues. I updated to the latest Nvidia driver for my motherboard (780i SLI) which seemed to stabilize my problem for a while, but it's becoming less stable once again. Network discovery is enabled aswel and I've turned off power saving on my network adapters. The make of my system is MSI MS-7510 1.0. Right now i'm at a loss how this can be resolved as it was working for a while but it seems the more the network is used the bigger the chance it loses connection. I'm not sure if this is helpfull or not but when the network is working it works at full force (around 50 mb/s up and download) so it's purely an issue with losing the connection from what i can see. Once again I apologise for my slow response and i hope it is possible to resolve my issues.

I would still get the university IT dept involved. have you checked with other dorm students to find out if they are having network issues like yours?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. The problem is there is no internet issue. When i lose my internet i also lose my network with my other pc and xbox and neither of those lose their internet connection. The issue i have is not losing my internet but losing all networking capability, if i go to the network and sharing center it's between "this computer" and the "network" where i lose my connection, rather then between my network and the internet.

you can not compare win 7 to XP vista in saying it can be the network because other things work.Win 7 has a improvements over the older OS it also has higher requirements not up hubs / switches / routers work with win 7.You will have to play the game if wish answers.unbind IP6 from the nic(s)remove everything but the win 7 box from the networkhook the win 7 box to the modem and test.use a crossover cable and connect two pc's and test.
