Windows 7 leaves open files on server
I have a windows 2008 server and 7 of my clients are windows 7 Pro (32 and 64 Bit) which leave files open on the server after a program is closed and even after the workstation is logged off the network. The server often shows several copies of open documents or spreadsheets even though the client has only opened the file once. The main problem this causes is if a client opens and saves a file then if another client opens it to make a change, the client cannot save it to the original name as the server thinks it is open. The Windows 7 clients are the only ones holding the file open. They also keep the login script open on the server indefitely although the script has opened and closed on the client. None of the XP machine have this problem.

Hi, Thanks for the post! Are all applications or files have this problem? Or certain applications have this issue? Do you open the UAC? Please turn off UAC and check if the issue persists. I have the same problem with my newly updated to to Windows 7 Pro system talking to my Snap Servers. If I open a file on the share the SnapServer reports one instance open. Now if I close that file in W7 the SnapServer reports multiple copies (10-20) are now open. Windows 98 and Windows XP machines on the same network do not exhibit the problem. Turning UAC off did not make a difference.
