Windows 7 leaves files open indefinitely on other systems?
I am seeing files left open forever on one Windows 7 machine (M1) when it was previously browsed by another Windows 7 machine (M2) I know this is going on because M1 is configured to go into standby mode after 30 minutes. Once it has been browsed by M2, it remains in full power mode from then on. The fsmgmt.msc utility shows an open session from M2. Under "open files" it lists a folder (C:\Users\M1\), not a specific file. When I run netstat -b on M2, it shows: TCP 192.168.1.104:58575 m1:microsoft-ds ESTABLISHED Can not obtain ownership information There is no program running on M2 with anything open on M1. There is no Explorer window on M2 that is open to any resource of the M1 machine. An explorer windows was opened to M1 more than 24 hour ago, and then closed. There is still some "phantom" TCP connection that remains established forever, and keeps M1 from going into standby mode. Is anyone aware of a fix or workaround for this problem?

Hi, Thanks for posting in Technet. Is there any mapped driver that map shared on M1 from M2? If so, that should be the root cause. On the M1 computer you may set auto-disconnect time with the command net config server /autodisconnect:time (second) The connect will disconnect after period of time. If it does not work, I suggest you change the power management configuration for the network adapter on M1. Please open Device Manager, open the Properties of the network adapter. Then, in the “Power Management” tab, make sure that the option “Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer”. You may also check related configurations in BIOS.
