Windows 7 is Unsecure..
I was browsing on a torrent site to download windows 7 (getting 1.2mbps from download.microsoft.com, i get 5-7mbps from torrents) and i ended up finding a torrent that says "Windows 7 Crack/Fix". And i first thought that it would be real secure. Now i realize that even with it being a free download some people just like hacking and cracking. There should be a big improvement in security and dont rely on the registry for activation storage. Hide the activation files and wizard in some form of .dll hidden and encrypted in the system. Like a application that launches a hidded application to activate windows and prevent alt+tab'ing to another window and remove copy pasting serials (good for people that buy it online from amazon or ms store)Anyways.. Every year i spend over $200 on a genuine copy of windows and im hoping that microsoft release this version for 99$ : )

And that torrent version you are now running, are you sure that there are no backdoor, trojans or other malware included in it? I think your title is misleading though. The operating is secure. What is failing in the industry is the idea that downloading from torrent site is appropriate behavior. There is a balance between WGA and customers. There are some that argue that WGA goes too far now to interfere with paying customers.

Let them crack it all they want. All that does is allow MS to 'plug the holes' to make the legit version harder to work around. Its not exactly insecure because its crackable. All Windows versions of late have been cracked and they not insecure.

In reference to the thread title, I have just run port scans on 'Shields up' and 'Security Metrics' with just the windows 7 firewall and both reported my pc as being in total stealth mode, I am going to investigate this further because I find it hard to believe as I have my windows 7 pc in the DMZ zone on my router as I installed uTorrent and downloaded Open Office org ( probably swear words around here, sorry).

You should port forward instead of put it in the DMZ zone, NAT is one of your strongest security features, use it.

OpenOffice is not a swear word. downloading illegal files from uTorrent is illegal, period and may cause security issues -- see Incidents.org site for details.

I am well aware of that, I never said I was downloading illegal files from uTorrent, I said I downloaded Open Office, which if you go to their website you will see there is a link to download Open Office through a Bit Torrent client, the point of my post was the fact that tcpkid titled the thread 'Windows 7 is unsecure' and I said that just using the built in Windows firewall'Shields Up' and 'Security Metrics' both sites reported my pc as being in total stealth mode, which I assume means that it is actually quite secure, so I would appreciate it if you didn't judge me. I am merelytesting different programs to see what works and what does not work, I thought that was the point ofbeta testing.

They do find holes (SP1 of Vista fixed many of Vista's for example). Holes in W7 B1 will not exist in the full version. And as mentioned several times, you should not download torrents, especially software torrents. You just don't know what nasty surprises you'll find these days. But for all other torrenting, like distributions by official authors no worries.

Woah you took it the wrong way i was searching if they managed to crack it. I am not running a pirated copy of this operating system, its downloaded straight from MSDN. & i do get the point that they have already manufactured and boxed this for sale.. But they will have to hold off the service pack otherwise people will just think that its unsecure that is the reason they released some fixes quickly. On the other hand it is good to release it asap as it will reduce the number of people running this version of windows illegally. Plus in Canada they stopped searching for people that are downloading illegal stuff which is not good for the economy if more people are getting the software without paying for it companies will make less profit and that wont increase the stock value as much. Thanks for the feedback, overall its the best version of windows to date.

Who is unsecure? I can appreciate that you might be in a hurry and want your download 4 - 6 times faster than Microsoft can send you, but when you do that you have to accept the fact that you may be downloading something that is bad for your computer. I mean really, there is no free lunch.
