Windows 7 intermittently does not show other network computers
OK Gang - seen this question asked a couple of times, but as of yet have not seen an answer that makes any sense. So here goes: We have a network at work that contains both XP and Win 7 systems. I am working on a Win 7 pro laptop. Yesterday I could see all 24 of our computers on the network when I go into Windows Explorer. Today I can only see my computer. Yes, Network Discovery is on, so please don't go there. Yes, Windows Firewall is on, but it was on yesterday and I could see everything. Just for fun, I turned it off for the first time in two years and discovered that I still can't find the rest of the network computers. They also don't show up when I search for them by name. I do have some mapped drives and they are all fine and find their computers, so I know the truth is out there somewhere!!!! OK, SO WHY DOES WINDOWS EXPLORER SHOW ALL THE COMPUTERS ON SOME DAYS?? WHY DOES IT DECIDE TO HIDE THEM ALL ON OTHER DAYS?? WHY DOES IT THEN DECIDE TO ONLY SHOW ONLY OTHER WINDOWS 7 COMPUTERS ON OTHER DAYS??? Is it just fickle, serious PMS, or what??? My deodorant is working and breath is fresh so I don't think it can be that . . . Utterly maddening when I am trying to get work done and instead spend hours with this insanity.

Hi, Please enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP for a test. Go to "Control Panel -> Network and Internet ->Network Connections". Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties. Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4" in the list. Click Properties, and then click Advanced. On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to "WINS" tab. Under NetBIOS setting, click "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP", and then click OK. Meanwhile, please test the issue in Safe Mode and clean boot. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Why-are-computers-missing-from-the-network-mapNiki Han TechNet Community Support
