When I tried to install windows7 on to a currupted vista installation , I am getting the error message as follows. When I tried to install Windows 7 Beta,on to the currupted vista installation in my laptop, I get the following error.Eventhough I tried to repair the previous installation with Win7 Beta, it took 10 hours trying to repair it and it didnt work out, and after rebooting, the same error was repeated.KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERRORTECHNICAL INFORMATION *** STOP: OX0000007A (OXCO22F694,0XC0000000E,OX19BB5860,0X8BDA5C0C)THE MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED CD DOSENT WORK FOR A REINSTALLATION OF VISTA,SINCE THE IMGE FILE IN THE HDD IS CURRUPTED. I would like to reinstall vista, if it is available from the microsoft site, since I have the OEM Product key at the backside of the laptop.Pl. advice how I can do this. Or how I can get the fdisk utility to format the HDD for a clean installation of Windows 7, and how I can install the hardware device drivers , if Windows 7 dosent recognise all the add on cards in the laptop such as NIC, sound, modem, usb2,bluetooth,graphics, MMkeyboard etc.Can any one suggest a suitable method please?. I woul like to repartition the HDD also.

The Manufacture sometime supplies a re-install cd did yours come with one? When you select a install area (drive) for windows 7 there is an option on the bottom (right i think) that will let you reformat drive.Just one thing your drive might be toast. If your laptop is a couple of years old win 7 prob. will have all if not most of the drivers install when win7 installs hope this helps

thanks for your interest Johnd24Ofcourse there is a manufacturer supplied cd, but it dosent contain vista installation cab files, only an image recovery utility from the hdd.Since the files in the hdd have been currupted, this cd is useless now.So i tried to install as fresh win7 beta, and tried to format the hdd , and tested with different partition sizes, including the whole 120 gb as a single c drive.Still at about 64% of the installatin , the above mentioned error message is coming. I dont know whether it is a read error or hdd media error or a bug of the beta ora write error of the hdd.Now I want to test the hdd first for damage or write error by using some utilities like fdisk/ scandisk from the cd drive.I need a method to boot into this system and test the hdd for errors using cd drive. Can you pl, suggest how I can get a bootable disk, and the utilities which can erase ntfs partions and create new partitions?

First, if you would like to reinstall Vista, you need to contact the manufacturer for the Vista installation media, as generally computer manufacturers customize parameters or settings to meet their design specifications. Also, there is no link available let you download Vista from which you can reinstall OS with the OEM key. The blue screen error 0x0000007A:KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR mostly can be caused due to the hardware factor, such as the faulty RAM or hard disk. Can you log on Vista properly? If so, you can check disk and check memory in Vista first. Check your hard disk for errors Running the Memory Diagnostics Tool Then, you can download the Ultimate Boot CD as Johnd24 suggested, you can repartition as you want. Note: If you cannot log on Vista, please run Ultimate Boot CD directly. After that, I suggest you copy the Win7 installation file to a USB and boot from USB to reinstall Win7 again. How to Install Windows 7 From USB Drive without Windows 7 ISO DVD After you install Win 7 correctly, if some devices cannot work fine, you can try installing the latest drivers for them to get they work. Good luck!

I was having the same problem several months ago trying to install Windows 7. Tried to re install Vista, same error, and then started to get the same error trying to install XP on a different hard drive. Turned out to be a stick of memory going bad. If you have more than one stick of memory installed, you might want to remove one and see what happens, and if the same error occurs, reinstall the one and remove the other and see what happens. I spent days trying to install the O/S before I discovered this.

Hi padayatti, What is the result? I noticed that you were trying to install Win7 beta, but the beta version has expired on July, 1. The Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) downloads are no longer available. I suggest you can try the RTM version if it is available to you. Have a nice day!
