Windows 7 icons
Ok, is am I the only one unhappy with the new quick launch buttons. I and a little OCD and I have my icons in the quick launch all packed together on my taskbar. Is their any way to make them smaller, like the ones on previous operating systems. I know they are trying to make it more "touch friendly" but they didnt seem to think about the people that do not have a touch screen. I want the icons closer together, not so spaced apart. By the time I put everything I use in the quick launch, I will not have any room left for any windows. Anybody else feel this way? Can it be fixed?Heather Watson

Hi Heather,I'm not overly keen on the new look icons, but i suppose we'll get used to them. You can make them smaller. Right click on the taskbar and select Properties. When the taskbar and start menu properties window opens the 'taskbar' tab should be showing. Just place a check mark 'tick' in the box next to the 'use small icons' option and then click OK. The actually spacing isn't much better but the icons are smaller.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

You can make the Taskbar a bit more like the old one and bring back the quick launch type functionality. Heres how: 1) Configure Taskbar Right click a blank are of the Taskbar, click Properties In the Taskbar tab, click use small icons Select Never combine from the Taskbar buttons dropdown. 2) Create a new quicklaunch Toolbar Right click a blank area of the Taskbar, click Toolbars | New Toolbar Navigate to where you want to keep your quicklaunch shortcuts, create a folder and give it a name such as quicklaunch. I suggest putting it as a sub folder under Home\My Documents. Select that folder. You will now have a new Toolbar. Right-click the Toolbar, unselect Lock the Taskbar Right-click the Toolbar, uncheck show text and show title You may wish to move the divider to expand the new Toolbar on the `Taskbar. Right-click the Toolbar, select Lock the Taskbar Now drag any shortcuts you want onto the new Toolbar, or copy them directly into your new quicklaunch folder. HEY PRESTO - you have a quicklaunch box again with small icons! In fact, you can make several if you want. This functionality is not new. Quicklaunch was introduced to Windows95 when IE4 came along, it was later integrated. One could always create new Toolbars on the Taskbar since then, but of course since the quicklaunch Toolbar was set as standard most people just used that.
