Windows 7 having trouble accessing a shared folder on a W2K server
i have an application on a Windows 7 (x86) that needs to access files in a shared folder on the network. i have mapped the drive correctly. i can reach the folder with \\server\folder just fine. but the application cannot access the folder information. Would there be some firewall rules to set? Thanks, John

Hi If it s a workgroup environment, the passwords on both the computers must be the same, if it s not the same, then you ll be prompted for password. if there is no password set, then you ll probably face problems like the one you are facing now which means you would not manage to connect to the shared folder. If it s a domain environment, make sure the required permission is given to your user. cheers

Hi, Can you provide the application name for research? To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you temporarily disable firewall and check whether the application can access the folder or not. If still not, it may not be related to Windows Firewall. Otherwise, you can open Windows Firewall and create a new Rule to allow the application to connect network.
