Windows 7 has encountered a critical error, and will restart in one minute. Please save your work now.
It seems that we have an issue, that came up in Windows 7 Professional. It happened to another machine we are using for testing, that is a home grown intel quad, with 8 gigs of ram. We discounted it as a domain issue, because our DC is 2k3 bits. Well, I brought up another machine for testing and got everything installed, had used it for about 7 hours without any issues. It wasnt until I plugged in a Windows Biometric Framework compatible reader, and installed it, enrolled, and logged out, that I had the problem upon login. Upon review with my other engineer, he noted that we had plugged the same fingerprint reader, and he had the same issue. He said he found a hotfix, but we cant find it again. I can reproduce the issues as well, when you press logo-L and lock the screen, then use your fingerprint to log back to the desktop, it will show up. Upon initial login with the fingerprint this does not happen. Only when 'unlocking' the desktop. The sensor is a Zvetco P5100, using a TCEFC sensor, and the UPEK 1.3.1 WBF advanced mode driver. Hi, according to your description, this issue could be caused by the Biometric device driver. First, pleaes update the driver to latest version. You can also try driver from the following link: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/08/windows-7-puts-it-s-finger-on-enhanced-biometric-support.aspx If the issue persists, please test it in Clean Boot mode. Hope it helps.Vivian Xing - MSFT

UPEK is not to release a new driver until closer to June. I am using the most current one. Are you suggesting that I create a support ticket with UPEK over this issue? Thanks for replying. I have created a Ticket with UPEK, and troubleshooted the issue. The ABOVE answer, is not an answer, but a suggestion. An incorrect one, as it does not solve the issue. UPEK advised me to read KB 976586 I applied the hotfix, and it worked without rebooting, however using NTLM authentication over Kerberos, killed my system performance, and I stop using the hotfix, and try not to lock my desktop, and just log in and out. Hopefully since there is a hotfix M$ is gonna include this in SP1.
