Windows 7 hard drive icons disappear while indexing searching for files.
I bought a brand new HP I7 and all I did was put audio files in several folders. Every time I click on a folder to go through the files the search/indexing bar takes forever and then my hard drive icons disappear and all I get is a searching eyeglass. It just goes on forever!! After calling HP, Microsoft and looking for an answer...I have found nothing. Oh, before anyone says it's me or my system...it happens at work as well to our server....which happens to be the only W7 machine in the office. This has never been an issue with XP, ever! Does anyone know what the problem is???

Hi, Based on my research, please try the following: 1. Boot into Safe Mode and Clean Boot Mode and see how it works. 2. Test the issue again in another user account. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile If issue persists, please provide us screenshots about the issue. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support
