Windows 7 freezes my adsl modem from time to time
This is a very weird network problem. I have an ADSL modem cum router (huawei mt882). I connect my windows7 laptop to it via an ethernet cable. My problem is that sometimes (like once every 20 min) my modem gets stuck. Its lights start blinking in a pattern i.e. link light will stay on for 1 sec then it will go off, then other lan lights will glow for 1 sec and then they will go off. This continues for a 30 or so seconds. All this while, internet connection is lost in all computers connected to the modem. The modem resumes normal functionality after 30 seconds. I am sure that the cause of this is win7 coz it doesnt happen when any other machine is connected to the modem. I also have ubuntu on this laptop and when i run ubuntu this problem does not occur. This is causing me great inconvinience. Please help!!

Disable IPv6 on all the windows 7 network devices and see if that helps and insure your router has the latest firmware installed. Also read this thread as it could very well have the solution you're looking for http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/2eeef958-bcb6-452a-8daf-f5e52e03f1fc MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I have disable IPv6 on all machines (i.e. I have deselcted the Ipv6 checkbox in network adapter properties). Still no change! I will try updating the router firmware but that doesnt seem to be the problem as other operating systems are working fine. Suggest sumthing else. It appears as though every 10 minutes win7 is asking the router for sum new settings or sumthing. (btw i dont hv dhcp enabled)...

Try getting clue or error prompt from event viewers under adminstrative tools. Alternatively you might wanna try to turn off or disable wireless zero configuration which is known as wlan autoconfig in windows 7 if you're running a utiltiy for the wireless though it might not be the case but no harm trying

Hi, Please bypass the router and connect to ADSL cable modem directly for a test. Does the issue persist? Thanks, Novak
