Windows 7 file copy system hang problem
I just purchased a NB with 64 bit Windows 7 regular Chinese version. However, I found serious problem with data copy. When I tried to copy data from external USB disk into the HDD in this new NB, the system hangs very very often. After the system hangs, the only way to get away from it is to force power switch shut-down. I doubt it is related to the file names contains in the data archive. My backup data has some files with name in English mixed with simplified Chinese. It seems that Windows 7 system hangs when the data copied from USB disk to system HDD contains files with the mixed name I mentioned above and the data amount is large. (Single file copy has no probem). Though I can not conclude a precise rule up to now, the symptom seems quite strongly related to those files with complicated file names in a bunch of data for copy. It is annoying since it's not possible to change the file name one by one for data backup. My previous NB with WinXP has no such problem at all. Is there any setting I should do to Windows 7 to avoid such problem? My new NB is Acer Aspire 4736G with P8700 CPU. Windows 7 64 bit regular Chinese version is bundled with the NB in shipping.

I have the same issue in win7, but in desktop.I have Windows 7Ultimate korean version x64 installed..No problem playing video files, using IE8, orcopy/moving single or few files at a time.BUT...1) freezes when decompressing multiple files at same time 'to each directory' (using winrar)2) freeze when copy/moving multiple or large file within internal drives.( havn't tried copy/moving to external drives yet )3) freeze installing korean'Win7 compatible' utilities (ex. alzip)4) freeze converting file to PDF (multiple files to single PDF)5) Windows exprience index wound't work 6) freeze in itunes9 sync to iphone or ipodI have heard similar symptoms at 'sony vaio & HP notebook forum (korean site)'.. which they solvedproblem#2 stated above,by installing latest 'intel matrix storage driver'.I tried also to my desktop (switched to AHCI mode from IDE, clean install of win7 then installed intel matrix storage driver)problem #5 and #6 was solved but other freeze symptoms still exist... for me.I would recommend you to try installing latest intel or nvidadriver according to your note books motherboard.Good luck! ... please reply if it helped at all.

Hello,The issue you describe sounds like a known problem. Please try the temporary workaround mentioned here, and see if that resolves the issue for you:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/3aae3b66-6a1a-47e8-ad1b-b20b68eaecf8#79ea3219-d76e-40bc-b910-c7d347002e66Thanks,MarkWant to know if your current hardware & software will work with Windows 7? Hi,The workaround wayMark mentioned in the linked web site does not solve my problem. I have successfully reduce the system memory as suggested. It takes a little bit longer than previous system configuration for Win 7 to do the data copy before system hang. This problem remains after several trials.Later I will try to reinstall the Intel driver suggested by faithkev.I think MS should put such problem as high priority to solve; since after a new PC purchased, most people will do the data copy as the first step.Thanks.

Tried suggested 'temporary workaround' Mark mentioned... NO GO for me either.evendone Win7 memtest - passedandmemtest+ 4.0 - passedset memory timing to factory, set manually on bios from AUTO.One clue i have is..in 'safe boot' above file transfer freeze symptoms i mentioned does not happen. So I have to think it must be some sort of 'incompatible driver issue'...my installed base drivers are... intel chipset inf utility 9.1.1.1019 intel matrix storage driver 8.9.0.1023 <- maybe this??! release date is July '09marvell 11.22.3.3 for Lan realtek HD 2.35 for soundnvidia 191.07 for vga...which are the latest drivers released i know.@AudiophileDelta, press F7 or F8before windows boot and boot in 'safe mode' and try to see if problem still exist.

I have tested in safe mode, no problem in file move/copy, installing korean utils in safemode.then did the 'CleanBoot', which ischking 'which services' are causing the problem... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 - Clean boot methodsTo my surprise.. itwas the Kaspersky 2010 internet security, build 9.0.0.736 (And 736 build was suppose to be Win7 compatiable!!)well this time I uninstalled the Kaspersky, not just exiting it as i tested before... and I think its solved!....since i moved all my files from backup HDD in 'safe mode'.. I havn't tested fully yet.I'll report back once i'm absolutly sure.@AudiophileDelta, after trying safe mode try Clean Boot.if your using any vaccine s/w, uninstall it fully and chk also, Otherwise use clean boot to see if there are other program service causing freeze.

Hi Faithkev, My new NB has Kaspersky 2010 IS installed as well. I will try your ways first thing in the morning tomorrow and feedback. (I put this NB in the office since I can't use it for any job anyway). Thanks a lot!!

I have just tried the suggestions by Faithkev. Result is successful: 1. In safe mode --> stable data copy from USB disk back to system HDD 2. disable Kaspersky 2010 IS protection --> system freeze as before 3. uninstall Kaspersky 2010 IS and re-boot --> stable data copy in either USB disk to system HDD or backward (I have tried up to 10GB data) Thanks, it does great help!! Hey man, I've got exactly the same problem! When I first installed Windows 7 I thought it was really nice. It has some great touches etc... But recently (today) I tried copying over some files (270mb) and it said it would - and did - take 7 hours! What gives?I saw apost here where they had a similar thing going on - apparantly it's not just me which is nice to know but Microsoft are just unbelieveable!http://www.caspianit.co.uk/windows-7-some-serious-problems-still-remain/I have Windows 7 64-bit 4GB RAM 1024GB HDD 1GB Network card and my computer runs like a turd! I thought it might be my hard disk starting to fail, but after reading so many posts I'm starting to believe that - surprise - surprise - Microsoft after several decades of work, tens of thousands of programmers and multiple billions ofdollars are still just as sh1t as they ever were!I also have IE8 crashing out all the time. I had a blue screen 1 hour ago - It's almost like the good (bad) old days of Windows '95Can't Microsoft be sewed or something for being so rubbish?

Do you have that software installed on your PC?If not, you'd probably be better off to start a new thread describing your issue in detail. I haven't noticed widespread complaints of slow file copy performance in the forums here.Want to know if your current hardware & software will work with Windows 7? Hey Mark, thanks for the reply. Sorry for being grumpy earlier, it's just (I think we were all hopeing) that these sorts of problems were all in the past. I'm not running KIS, but I am running AVG 8.5 should I unstall that do you think and leave virus protection up to Windows defender?

did u uninstall the AVG and did that resolve your problem?
