Windows 7 dual boot (x86 / x64) and BitLocker encryption failure after running startup repair utility
Hi all, I have an issue which I need resolved. My hard drive had about 5 different partitions, one for Win7 x86, Win7 x64, Misc, Encrypted Data and Virtual Machines. The Encrypted Data partition was secured with BitLocker - The OS-partitions was _not_ secured with BitLocker. Now what happened was that I had to run the startup repair utility on my Win7 x64 installation and this completely messed up things for me. I have lost the Encrypted Data and Virtual Machine-partition. I do not care about the VMs, but the Data contains vital information which I have not backed up yet. Ontop of losing the two partitions, a new partition called HP_tools re-appeared. This partition was removed when I scratched the OEM-installation approx. a year ago. I urgently need to recover this Data-partition. Can anyone help?

Additional information: I do have unallocated space (between other partitions) on my hard drive, but none at the exact size of my encrypted partition.

Hi, First, please check how many partitions in the Device Manager now. If the partitions can not be found in the Device Manager, I suspect you were using the manufacturer recovery tool to repair the Installation. If so, the data which you encrypted may not be found. If they still exist, you may try to use BitLocker Repair Tool to restore the data. Hello and thank you for your response. As I have stated already, I lost two (of five) partitions and "regained" an old OEM-partition. The unallocated space which has appeared does not match the missing partitions as such. I used the Startup Repair Utility my Windows recommened (Not an OEM-installation mind you). So running the Bitlocker repair tool won't do much good as I am infact missing the encrypted partition, right? I need to restore the partitions as they originally were. Any good ideas on how to do that? --G

Hi, If you use the Startup Repair Utility to fix the start up error, it should not cause this issue. I suggest to use some 3rd disk tools to recovery the partition, then try to use the BitLocker recovery tool to recovery the data. Hope this helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
