I have a small network containing the following specs:Server:Windows Small Business Server 2008 x64 with SP2 (and latest hot fixes)The SBS 2008 installation is standard with SQL, SharePoint, WSUS, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 8.2.176.2 etc.(No errors when i run "Windows Small Business Server 2008 Best Practices Analyzer" or "Fix My Network" within Windows SBS Console..)The SBS also is the only Domain Controller running DNS and DHCP (i have disabled those functions on my router DLINK Dir-655 v1.32NA v2)Other software running:Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 3.2.7600.226 Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Advanced v6.0 with Service Pack 1 Build 2122 (firewall is disabled)The server has Windows Firewall enabled.Remotely Anywhere 9 connecting) and it says "This computer is being remote controlled by DOMAIN\admin from 192.168.0.2" normaly it says "This computer is being remote controlled by DOMAIN\admin from PCName.DOMAIN.local" after a fresh boot. There were also some issus with network shares , but i think i have solved them now. (just applied the settings)The shares on the client side would get a red cross over them after some 8+ hours specially when i downloaded a file directly to a network share, but i think i have solved it now by going into Group Policy on the server and changed "Default Domain Policy [PCName.DOMAIN.LOCAL] Policy" -> "Computer Configuration" -> "Policies" -> "Windows Settings" -> "Security Settings" -> "Account Policies" -> "Kerberos Policy" And set all to MAXEnforce user logon restrictions = DisabledMaximum lifetime for service ticket = 99999 MinutesMaximum lifetime for user ticket = 99999 HoursMaximum lifetime for user ticket renewal = 4167 daysMaximum tolerance for computer clock synchronization = 5 minutes (Standard)also changed:"Default Domain Policy [PCName.DOMAIN.LOCAL] Policy" -> "Computer Configuration" -> "Policies" -> "Windows Settings" -> "Security Settings" -> "Local Policies" -> "Security Options"Network security: LAN Manager authentication level = Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiatedNetwork security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients = No MinimumNetwork security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers = No MinimumThings i have tried:Turned off the Windows Firewall and Trend Worry-Free, disabled power management for nic on both server and client, changed nic's, changed router with a cisco switch and changed cables. So to sum up:The client gets "disconnected" from the server and looses it's name from pcname.domain.local to just the ip after 4/5 hours. The client disconnects the network share (i can click on the share and it's up again), but programs i run thru network looses it's connection when this happends. (this may be solved now because of the policy changes above)So can anyone pls tell me how to fix this maybe without the policy changes (if that's possible) or is it just something i have to live with because of the security improvements in Windows 7 ? and why does the clients looses it's DNS name after some hours ?

Hi Jan, have you recieved any responses or info on this? I'm seeing the exact same issue only it only takes an hour or two. I constantly have to reboot to gain the connections again. Thx.

No, and i have'nt come any closer eighter. Its still lossing it's dns name after some hours. Seems like my NAS is having some problems also so it might have something to do with samba or the authentication ? If i constantly use the nas connection ie a torent it stays connected, but as soon as there is no network traffic it get's a red cross over it and then i can't access it by dns name just ip adress. A couple of months ago i installed Windows 2008 Standard Server since i had the same issue with 2003 Server, but the problem won't go away. Guess i'm cursed or something :/

hmm i just noticed that when i crc check an iso file , archive and iso and use the computer alot the copy/paste function is disabled thru Remotely Anywhere and when i reconnect the Remotely Anywhere session the ip/dns name changes. Also in the event log on the server theres some events with the following: Source: Microsoft Windows security auditing. Event ID: 4634 An account was logged off. Subject: Security ID: SYSTEM Account Name: ZION$ Account Domain: SOME1ELSE Logon ID: 0x1f5273d8 Logon Type: 3 This event is generated when a logon session is destroyed. It may be positively correlated with a logon event using the Logon ID value. Logon IDs are only unique between reboots on the same computer. Dont know if this is it, but i'll try to google it.

What happens when you use RWW to remote in? In other words is this a Remotely Anywhere or a Windows problem? Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

I dunno, haven't realy tried to leave RWW on for that long. I'll try to leave it on for a day or two just to see if ie copy/paste and other features works. thanks for your suggestion :)

I have the same problem ... using Win 7 32 bit Pro ..loses it's connection after 2 or 3 hours. Must re-log in to reenable drive mappings to SBS servers I use logmein but will lose connection whether or not i use remote access.

It could be the server you are connected to has a timeout. I know SAMBA on Linux can be setup to timeout or it can be disabled. Not sure if Windows Server supports it. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe Need a some parts finish the new server, see the site for remaining items needed

Still same problem. What i tried was: Uninstall RemotelyAnywhere(logmein) enabled default settings to "Default Domain Policy [PCName.DOMAIN.LOCAL] Policy" -> "Computer Configuration" -> "Policies" -> "Windows Settings" -> "Security Settings" -> "Account Policies" -> "Kerberos Policy" Also enabled default settings to: Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers Did a gpupdate /force (as local administrator on both Server and Client) and left the client connected over the night, the next morning (over 8 hours++) the network connected drives to the server had a red cross over them.. Also the Microsoft Windows security auditing. Event ID: 4634 events on the server are still there.

I have tried the KeepConn registry setting and going to Power Options (in control panel) -> Chosed Balanced (recomended) change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> now in the new windows (Advanced Settings) i let it stay on the default "Balanced [Active] and changed PCI Express to off. Also changed the Power Options and to never shut down HDD on the server with no luck. I have done some more testing and it seems like whenever i leave Internet Explorer open over some time and download a file to a network share the drives gets disconnected, but if i close IE and repoen it then download a file to the share/mapped drive the share does'nt get disconnected. i have googled for some more answers to this, but have'nt found any.
