I've installed Windows 7 on my Fujitsu Siemens laptop computer Xa2528 and there are two items that do not have appropriate drivers which are the WiFi card and the Bison built-in Webcam. I have connected an Ethernet cable to search the internet for drivers for those items to no avail. Does that mean that the manufacturers have not developed drivers for them yet? and I have to wait until .....?

If the maker hasn't released Win7 drivers, try the Vista ones. I see that Vista drivers exist for your laptop.With any luck, they'll install without any additional effort.If there are installation problems, I have used a few work-arounds. You probably won't need them, bu they are:1) Set compatibility mode for the setup routine to Vista, and Run as Administrator. Thatmay circumvent the OS version checks built in to some installers.2) Use a third-party extraction utility (like 7zip) to decompress the installer, if the installer is a self-extracting archive. (Some are.) The notebook PC maker may have modified a generic installer from the maker of the peripheral device itself. You may be able to launch the installer from a subdirectory in the extracted archive, and bypass OS version checks again.3) Get drivers from the peripheral maker directly, if you can identify the maker (like Bison). They may not be set up in quite as foolprooof a manner as those from the norebook maker, so you may be able to use them more easily.You shouldn't have to wait for official Win7 drivers.

Thank you for your input. I have not found any driver even for Vista; for one thing I cannot find the manufacturer's web site for Bison. The WiFi driver's issue is resolved by Microsoft Auto Update that just happened yesterday. Hopefully the Bison driver will be available someday.

There are drivers for Bison Webcams, but you must post the exact model first. A good idea would be to provide your hardware IDs, too (Device Manager -> your device -> Properties -> Details, scroll the "property" entries, it's the scond one). Hi NguyenIt sounds like 'Bison' is one of those hardware makers that only deal with OEM computer makers, such as Fujitsu-Siemens. They don't deal directly with the public end user.Since the Bison Webcam came pre-installed on your computer, I would suggest looking on the Fujitsu-Siemens website for drivers. If you cannot find the drivers there, perform an internet search for "Bison webcam drivers" you will find many third party driver distributors.If your laptop came with a utility CD, you might find the driver on that disk. Thank you Ronnie for your input.I've checked with Fujitsu_Siemens' site and the supplied driver CD to no avail before posting my question.There is nowhere information about Windows 7's driver for Bison Webcam.Windows 7 even doesn't recognize the webcam as a Bison, just as an USB Webcam, so the chance that it could find a driver looks slim!Thank you all the same.

The hardware ID was very helpful. Your webcam seems to use the ALi M5603C chipset and comes with many laptops from many different manufacturers. For XP drivers, look here: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=371279. There's a chance they could work on Windows 7, too (should be tried in compatibility mode for XP). For Vista drivers, you could try the drivers offered by Acer for the Aspire 5610 series: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html. At least they are newer than the ones offered on the Fujitsu-Siemens site (6.96.0.06 from 2008/12/02 instead of your6.32.0.10from 2007/08/24). No guarantee that they match your specs (ALi has newer webcam chipsets in the meantime). Thank you Sanmartin, your information is very valuable. Following your tip I just download the Acer provided driver and will try to install with windows 7. Could you be so kind as to tell me how to try in compatibility mode? Also for XP driver it is a restricted site and I do not have a PayPal account, hence I connot have it.

Another Vista driver from http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. This one is for the ASUS A6000 A6R notebook and matches your hardware ID (6.32.00.004, from 2007). If you choose "XP" at "operating system", there is also a driver, 2.6.0.52 from 2005. To run it in compatibility mode for XP, unzip the downloaded file, right-click on "setup.exe" and by "properties" select compatibility for XP, SP2 or SP3. (This should only be needed for the XP driver, but compatibility mode for Vistais set the same way.) I've downloaded the 6.96.0.06 from 2008/12/02driver from Acer site. I run setup with the compatibility to Vista, Vista SP1 and Vista SP2 to no avail. Finally I went to System Hardware management and right click on the Webcam, update driver, point to the place I extracted the 6.96.0.06 from 2008/12/02file. The Webcam is recognized as ACER OrbiCam but show a black window when I run it whether from the Desktop or from MSN Messenger. I'll try the Asus and let you know. Thanks.

As I said, there's no guarantee as even the same devices with the same chipset and the same ID may work different in different pc builds. Both are system devices (motherboard components). One is the SMBUS driver (System Management Bus), one is an infamous chipset driver part. Both should be updated automatically when you (re) install the chipset driver for your motherboard. (If you can't find it, it's also on the Fujitsu-Siemens site.) (Again in compatibility mode, if this helped the other time.) Else you can try this solution from another post: "In Device Manager open the coprocessor properties and click update driver, then Browse my computer. Do a search for just C:\.[Or whatever your Win7 drive is.]Ensure the Include subfolders box is checked and click next. It will search your entire C: drive and it should become available." Hello Sanmartin,I have download the chipset driver from Fujitsu and run it.The results are that the coprocessor now is OK and it remains the SMBUS driver ACPI\SMCB0C2 *SMCB0C2.Have any idea how to fix it?Thank you for your help without it I would not have been able to fix those missing drivers.

Hi again,that the SMBUS driver remains "unknown" after installing the chipset driver is really strange, because the SMBUS is a part (southbridge) of the NVIDIA MCP51 chipset itself. There are no separate drivers you could install for this device. Although that SMBUS remains unknown, Windows 7 seems to working fine for the moment. May be when I'll install more apps, I might experience problems then. So I just bear with it until fix is needed. Thanks for all the help provided.
