Windows 7 does not logon automatically while password is filled in
Hi, I have the the following the problem. I have set up auto logon on Windows 7. It worked without problems for a while but about two or three months ago it did not logon automatically any more. However the password is filled in already. (Just like most web browsers remember passwords.) I can logon by pressing the enter key or clicking on the -> button. I have tried remove and setting up auto logon again without solving the problem. I tried using both 'control userpasswords2' and SysInternals autologon. I am using Windows 7 Professional as an stand alone computer. Anyone idea's how to solve this? (Besides reinstalling Windows.) Thanks in advance! Below is a export of my computer Winlogon registry key. (Subkeys omitted and sensitive info anonymized.) Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "ReportBootOk"="1" "Shell"="explorer.exe" "PreCreateKnownFolders"="{A520A1A4-1780-4FF6-BD18-167343C5AF16}" "Userinit"="C:\\Windows\\system32\\userinit.exe," "VMApplet"="SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe /pagefile" "AutoRestartShell"=dword:00000001 "Background"="0 0 0" "CachedLogonsCount"="10" "DebugServerCommand"="no" "ForceUnlockLogon"=dword:00000000 "LegalNoticeCaption"="" "LegalNoticeText"="" "PasswordExpiryWarning"=dword:00000005 "PowerdownAfterShutdown"="0" "ShutdownWithoutLogon"="0" "WinStationsDisabled"="0" "DisableCAD"=dword:00000001 "scremoveoption"="0" "ShutdownFlags"=dword:00000027 "AutoAdminLogon"="1" "DefaultUserName"="username" "DefaultDomainName"="COMPUTERNAME"

Workgroup. The DefaultDomainName string value contains the actual computer name. Removing it does not solve problem.

This does something else. See Raymond Chen's blog about it: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2006/03/06/544496.aspx. It does something interesting. It fills in the password just like after booting. Without the password textbox is empty.

Are you on domain or workgroup? This key doesn't feel right ("DefaultDomainName"="COMPUTERNAME") http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/make-windows-vista-log-on-automatically/ http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/windows7/windows7_auto_logon.htm
