Windows 7 disconnects mapped drives on server 2003 DC
Hello all, I have 2 users who are having problems with windows 7, every few hours all of their mapped drives disconnect and can't be reconnected. The drives are mapped to shares on my DC, once this disconnect has happened I can't get to the server at all, \\Server\share doesn't work nor does \\server ip\share. The users still have access to the exchange server and everything else including the secondary DC. When this issue occurs I can still ping the server using it's IP or computer name. Flushing the dns or renewing the ip does nothing, I've also tried disabling IPv6, again this didn't help. Restarting the PC restores the connection for a while, I can't see any related errors in the event logs on the server or the client. Any one got any Ideas? Cheers, Jonathon

Hi Jonathon, May I know how other computers works? Does some other Windows 7 client encounter this issue? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Update the NIC driver on the Windows 7 computer. 2. Disable Saving Power function of the NIC: 1) Click Start, right click on Computer and choose Properties. 2) Click Device Manager in the left pane. 3) Navigate to the NIC, right click on it and choose Properties. 4) Go to Power Management tab. 5) Please uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." 6) Restart the computer and check if it works. 3. Boot the computer to clean boot and check if there are any conflicts: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 Hope this helps. Thanks. I have same problem. AD server 2003, clients WIN 7 64 bit, and mapped drives disconnect and can´t reconnected. NIC drvers are updated, power save unchecked. New Dell desktops, maybe back to Win Xp Pro and no more disconnected drives.

Thanks Jon, not yet, still studying changes.. Now I have made changse to server registery, autodisconnect = fff, client registery KeepConn=65535. Default Policy changes WaitNetwork connection and send LM..if negotated. Maybe I dont remember all. I have login script in users profile, net use x \\server\share drive /persistent:yes. But still have problems. Now when client disconnected mapped drives, I get error, cant connect drive x, because drive is aldredy connected. But users dont get files from mapped drive. Iam little bit tired whith this problem. Now I have studied SBM -protocol, now it´s not defined -stage, maybe I chnged this disable.

I am having the same issues with Windows 7 machines on our domain. Drives mapped via logon script to Win2k3 R2 domain controller.

This issue seems to have stopped occuring for me, although I'm not sure why, a patch maybe? I have not yet found a cause and am not convinced the problem has gone completely.

Our office has been experiencing a lot of system hangs on our our Win7 x64 machines connected to a 2003 R2 file server. Our Win7 x32 workstations haven't been showing the problem. After *endless* searching I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684 It seems that for whatever reason Win7 x64 *really* doesn't like having it's drives disconnect unexpectedly. I've only been running the fix for a day so far, but we haven't had a machine die yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I had this problem for a short while. We have realtek cards 8167 cards if this is of any relevance. This was actually a fix that we put in for a totally different performance problem with some HP servers but actually appears to have fixed the issue on these realtek based HP PCs. netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled no need to reboot, problem went away immediately for us. Hope this helps. /Edit/ Sorry, for completeness we also modified the following reg keys...(however these did not fix the issue in their own right and have just been left on). [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters] "autodisconnect"=dword:ffffffff [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters] "KeepConn"=dword:00065535
