Our customer recently bought 4 new HP Pavilion Slimline s5310t PCs with Windows 7 64-bit. We successfully added them to the Windows Server 2003 domain. The customer has 2 HP LaserJet 4250 tn printers that are networked with IP addresses. I successfully added the 2 printers to 2 of the Windows 7 computers. I chose "Add a local printer", "Add a new port" and typed in the IP addresses. It automatically found the printers and installed the correct driver. When I used the same process on the other 2 Windows 7 computers, I got an error that says, "Additional port information required. The device is not found on the network...." It asks for me to choose the "Device Type". I've tried several device types, but it can't find the printers. The 2 computers that can't connect to the printers are in the same Windows Server 2003 domain as the other 2 that can. They are attached to the same switch as the other 2. They all can browse the network & internet. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello, I have the same problem; The network has a printer, a HP color laserjet CM2320fxi, which functions fine. I can install it in windows 7 with no problems (however there is a warning sign on the printer icon, but when i open the trouble shooter, it concludes that nothing is wrong.. This printer is installed fine! When i try to print something (e.g. a screendump in irfan view) i cannot select this printer..

I have the same problem. Windows 2003 domain and print server, HP Laserjets (4100, 4050), Windows 7 clients. Add new printer on clients, network printer, the list of printers is correct, click to select printer, but on some of the clients during the process of getting the driver from the print server it obviously is not found because it goes on to Windows Updates for a long time before failing. Successful clients find the driver from the server in a short time and ask whether to install it.Clients are exactly the same in every way that I can detect.Tried adding as local port direct to the ip of the printer, takes a long time, finally get error of not understanding what kind of network port, etc... Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem: Printer is an HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni (10.1.1.7) Connected directly to network hub DSL-G604T (10.1.1.1) via ethernet cable. Computer is HP Mini (10.1.1.3) running Windows 7 connected wirelessly to the same hub. The printer driver is already installed successfully. I had previously connected the printer via USB to the HP Mini and printed that way. Now when I disconnect USB and attempt to connect via network, Windows 7 can't detect the printer, even though I know its IP address. I even just added its IP address to the list of Static IP Assignments. There's a bug here somewhere, but I'll be blowed if I can figure it out.James Hippolite MCPD (Web), MCITP (DB), MCT

THIS ISNT REALLY A FIX FOR CONNECTING DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER - BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE PRINTER TO WORK ON MY WIN7 MACHINE BY SHARING THE PRINTER ON MY SERVER... NOW IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM...

Was there a solution for this issue? Mine is very similiar and I haven't been able to find an answer yet. Windows Server 2003 HP Laserjet P2055dn - Printer is shared Windows 7 (32-bit) Machines I am unable to find the printer in the listing, but I can use the "my printer isn't listed" option. Though the work around is a fix for the issue, I would like to be able to see my shared printers in the listing. I also have Windows XP Machines that DO see the printer on the list, but when I use a windows 7 machine the printer is no where to be found. If there is anyone who can solve my issue i would greatly appreciate it! :)

I have a HP 6310 all in one printer connected to my router. When I go into my router and search the attached devices I can see the HP printers IP address. I write this address down for later use. I then go into windows 7 on my machine, printers and devices then right click on my printer and select printer properties, then go to ports, click on the printer port, select config port and add the proper IP address where it says printer and IP address. This will work for months until I lose power then I have to go back and chance the IP address if it changes when power comes back. This never happened with windows XP so I think this is a flaw in windows 7 that it can not find the printer IP address.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8500 909g all in one printer/scanner/fax and it is configured with a static IP address and I can access the printer via the IP address and configure it, however, when I try installing the software, it fails to see the printer... this is with a Win7 Pro x32 Edition.... There is clearly a problem as I have seen this in 100's of forums, but not found any resolutions to it. I have the original CD and have downloaded the latest full version and still nothing. Come on HP sort this out....

I had similar problem as you all described. After my laptop upgrades from Windows XP to Windows 7, I no longer able to access to network printer (It is an HP laser printer). However, what I've done to get it working is to install HP Universal Printing software (download from HP website). That software acts like a manager and everytime I print, the software will prompt me where to print. Of course, you'll have to setup available printers in the software and if you have the printer address, it'll find it. I dont know if there is other way to make it work. Good luck all.

I am having the same issue. If anyone figures this out. My printer is a Canon Pixma MX870. I can connect the printer via usb or as a wsd printer. But when I connect as wsd the scanner does not work, only the printer and fax.

Check to see if your firewall (e.g., McAfee) is blocking network access to spoolsv.exe. After every upgrade, McAfee is notorious for alerting about every access, and I unthinkingly responded block when it asked if I should allow spoolsv.exe unlimited access to the network. As a result, that one machine could not access any printers, but all of my other systems, including Linux, had full access! Not an obvious problem, and the fix was hard to find. I ditched mcafee and, voila, problem solved! Thanks to DES in Houston.

Thanks DES in Houston, this was my problem. Changed access to Full and the printer was found on the network right away and I was able to print a test page. Next, I tried setting the access level to Outgoing. That worked fine too. BTW, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, the printer is a HP Deskjet 6940.
